As incredible as it sounds, I heard a story the other day from another county's jail...

Female jailer got jumped on in a holding area by an inmate and he beat the hell out of her while two other unrestrained inmates just watched. Later that evening, when they returned to their own pods (pods usually hold 20 to 30 inmates, 2 or 3 to a room and a common area accessible by all during certain times of the day), their pod-mates beat the hell out of them for not helping her.

The guy who beat her was obviously charged for his crime, moved to isolation and then moved to another county jail because they couldn't guarantee his safety.

"Allegedly" the Warden of that jail bought that pod ice cream with his own money.
