How did the football season go for your team?
“It was a pretty good season, but it wasn’t where we wanted to end. Going into the season we didn’t know what to expect because the off-season wasn’t the best. However, we felt we had a really good team and the potential to go to the Dome. We lost a lot of seniors the year before so early on, a couple new guys were playing that had never played varsity before. It took a couple games, but I think at our homecoming game we really meshed and came together. We had a few injuries throughout the year, but we were able to find ways to win yet. Our last game in the quarterfinals, we probably should have won. We were in the red zone four times and never came away with points. We were close but couldn’t finish the year the way we wanted.”

What are your workout plans now going forward?
“As soon as the season ended, we started weights within two weeks. We lift three times a week and then do speed, agility, jumping, and other drills after lifting. Once the workouts are done, the kids go up to the gym and play some two-hand touch just for fun. We lift all the way up to football practice in August.”

What are you trying to improve on the most this off-season?
“I’m focusing on getting faster and stronger. I’m a little on the smaller side, so I’m trying to build muscle and improve my speed. When I’m up in the gym playing with the guys, I focus on my technique I would use in a game. I’m trying to make myself better in all areas.”

How do you believe your team will be next season?
“I think our team this coming season will be really good. I’m excited to see what happens. We lost some guys, but we have quite a few returning. The ones that have to step up and fill a position I feel confident in. I like what I’m seeing in the weight room this off-season, and I think we could be a team that could make a run in the playoffs. We dropped to 1A, so we’ll have to see what we can do.”

What is the toughest game on your schedule for 2018?
“I still haven’t seen our accurate schedule, but from what I’m hearing from my coaches and from seeing the district parings, I believe our district opponent South Hamilton or our non-district opponent Kuemper Catholic will be our toughest opponent this coming season.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would definitely like to play sports in college. I’ve been playing sports for as long as I can remember, and I don’t want to stop playing them. I’d preferably like to play football or run track. I really enjoy doing these sports and would like to do them at the next level. I’d also like to wrestle, but I’d prefer the other two sports before this one.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Not many colleges have looked at recruiting me. I’ve gotten a couple invites to junior days from some DII colleges in Minnesota, Kansas, and Iowa.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Luther College in Decorah, Iowa is the college that has expressed the most interest in me. Last September, I attended one of their football games and received a tour of the campus and athletic facilities. I got to meet the coaching staff as well. They told me they’d like me to come play there and that they’d be in touch with me in the months to come.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Other than Luther, I haven’t made any other college trips yet.”

What camps are you going to this summer?
“My football coach informed me about a combine type camp in South Dakota that I’ll be going to. I’m going to try to work around my baseball schedule to line up more camps, but so far, I’m only going to the one camp for sure.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I grew up loving Iowa State and I still do to this day. I tried to go to as many athletic games of theirs as I could.”
