How did the football season go for your team?
“Overall, this year we ended up at 4-5. That doesn't sound like anything spectacular, however it was a big step forward for our program. Those loses included two or three games that were very capable of winning, but we did execute like we had planned. One loss was to the #6 team in the state on a 43-yard field goal with under a minute left.”
What are your workout plans now going forward?
“As far as workouts go, us athletes work out every other day during school while basketball is still in season. Once basketball is over, I plan on being in the weight room every day after school doing power lifts, core lifts, or speed and agility.”
What are you trying to improve on the most this off-season?
“Personally, I would really like to improve my speed and my footwork. Whether it be rolling out, and simply sitting in the pocket, I know there are aspects that I can always improve. I would also like to work on the tempo of our offense because I know that runs through me. If I can get our guys to push the tempo and keep other defenses on their heels, I'd love to do it.”
How do you believe your team will be next season?
“In regard to next season, I know for a fact that our guys are already extremely excited. We were pleased with our past season; however, we saw just a glimpse of what we can really do and I think we're anxious to get going. I truly believe that we can have a very successful season. We lost some key seniors on the defensive side, but we bring back a lot of experienced, talented players.
What is the toughest game on your schedule for 2018?
“After recently sitting down with my coach and getting a sense of each team, Pekin was a very solid team last year. They were a very heavy rushing team with nearly three guys over 500 yards and one over 1,200. However, their top two rushers have graduated. We are looking forward to the challenge and to see what next season brings.”
Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I have a true passion for football and would love to play it at the college level. I don't want to take anything away from any of my other sports, because they have helped me get to where I am today. However, football is where I believe I can have the most success.”
What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Thus far, I have not been recruited very heavily by any teams in specific. Smaller colleges have reached out to me but have not contacted me personally or with urgent interest. UNI has recently spoken with my head coach about me and received my information. I would love to communicate with any coaches I could.”
Have you made any college trips yet?
“I haven't taken any college visits for football yet; however, I would love to go on any visits that are offered to me and continue to get my name out there. I plan on visiting Iowa State with one of my fellow teammates this fall if the opportunity presents itself.”
What camps are you going to this summer?
“This summer, I plan on attending one of Iowa State's camps, along with that same teammate. I have interest in going to Iowa's camp, and possibly Wisconsin's as well.”
Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up, I have always been a Cyclone fan. My dad and both brothers attended and are currently attending Iowa State University, so I have plenty of experience with Ames. Several members of my extended family have been season ticket holders for quite some time now and I continue to go to as many games as possible. The atmosphere in Jack Trice is like none other I have ever been around. It's hard not to get chills every time those sirens sound. Cyclone Nation definitely has played a huge role in my life growing up.”
