Playoff Predictions!

Go and check them out!

Ehh..

- IKM should be the #2 in D7. They beat LOMA head to head. LOMA will need to beat Avoca to get runner up.

- Wilton/Sig Keota game will be big. BCMoore has Wilton favored by 7.

- Going by BCMoore projections the following teams will finish 5-2 and have a chance at the wild card spots:
- Also listed current point differentials as of now.

Sig Keota +51
South Winn +46
Emmetsburg +37
LOMA +31
Maquoketa Valley +31
Manson NW Webster -2

Guessing IKM Manning travels way north to West Lyon for round 1.

By District for Wildcard:

1 - Not holding out hope for Emmetsburg. Too low on points if things hold serve.
2 - BK or SW will definitely be a wildcard
3 - Maq Valley needs a good showing against Bellevue in Week 9. They are going to be in the hunt for sure.
4 - Sig Keota and Wilton play for 2nd seed. The loser will be in the mix for wildcard #2
5 - No wildcard
6 - No wildcard
7 - No wildcard

It's going to be a 5 team race for 2 spots.

The wildcards will come from the following list (98% certainty rate):

Belmond-Klemme
Maquoketa Valley
Sigourney-Keota
South Winneshiek
Wilton

West Branch vs. South Winn or Wilton
Regina vs. South Winn or Wilton
Denver vs Bellevue
Pella vs Sig-Keota
IKM vs Van Meter
Belmond-Klemme vs South Hamilton
Western Christian vs West Lyon
AHSTW vs Pleasantville

Just a prediction

I don’t think a 1 can play a 2 from the same district. So WL/ Western wouldn’t happen until the quarters.

If my list if 16 plays out, try to find me a matchup for West Lyon that doesn't include the following:

a 160+ mile drive
a non-D1 team
a non-District champ

Feel free.
I would be open to suggestions. I only did WC vs WL because of the geographical nightmare those schools present to the rest of 1A.

If they do not play in Rd 1, then WC will be driving over 150 miles for a game.
Thanks alot D1. hahahaha

I understand what you are saying, but one of the guidelines for playoff pairings is that a district champ can't play the district runner up from their district in round one. Unless this has changed from last year, this matchup can't happen until the quarterfinals.

I know the rule. Just feel for teams that have to drive that far. Hopefully the IHSSA reimburses travel :)

Personally, I like the rule. When you make the playoffs you shouldn't have to see a district opponent first round. As for travel, I don't get too wound up on how far teams need to drive. Most teams will drive wherever they need to to keep playing.

I'm guessing IKM to West Lyon

Everyone would know the criteria...IF THE IHSAA WOULD JUST POST THE POST-SEASON FOOTBALL MANUAL!!

They even deleted the one from 2016 from the archives. Teams need to know this information but the IHSAA doesn't appear to be in any hurry to get it posted.

Exactly NWMS

Well, the Post-Season Manual has finally been posted: http://www.iahsaa.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/2017-FB-Post-Season-Manual.pdf

Here is some helpful info:
1st RoundDistrict Champions have the opportunity to host.
Preset brackets will be made for the playoffs.
District Champions and district runner-ups from the same district will not be paired together in the 1st round. (So West Lyon & Western Christian will HAVE to play schools from another district. By geography, that most likely means IKM-M goes to WL and WC goes to AHSTW if that is how those district end up finishing out these last 2 weeks...which would seem logical.)
District Champions and at-large qualifiers from the same district may be paired together in the 1st round.

But then here is an interesting tidbit about site assignments:
SITE ASSIGNMENTS CLASSES 4-A, 3-A, 2-A, 1-A, A, 8-PLAYER
For the first round games:
When a district champion plays a district runner-up, the district champion will be the home team.
When a district champion plays an at-large qualifier, the district champion will be the home team.
When a district runner-up plays an at-large qualifier, the district runner-up will be the home team.

That just seems absolutely ridiculous that a District RUNNER-UP could be paired with an At-Large team for the 1st Round...why does a RUNNER-UP get essentially rewarded when they couldn't even win their own district???? I don't see it happening, but WHY even have that as an option if mileage isn't a restriction any more for 1st Round games.

So West Branch will be traveling to Regina for the Quarterfinals?

For the quarterfinal-round games: The team with the higher finish in their respective district according to the district playoff qualification procedure will be the home team.

If the two teams paired have the same district finish, the team with the best district record will be the home team.

If the two teams have the same district finish and district record, head-to-head competition between the two tied teams will determine the home school with the winner of the head-to-head competition being the home team.

If there was no head-to-head competition, the home school will be determined by the alphabetical system and the school listed FIRST alphabetically will be the home team.

I think that's the little bit of wiggle room they left themselves to reduce travel time in round 1.
Probably won't get used, but at least offers some flexibility that could improve travel time for multiple games.
IMO, there are multiple districts every year where I'd rather face a #1 instead of a good #2, so not a huge disadvantage

Bellevue could be a very dangerous #2 seed.
Their offense is very good. Even in their lone loss to West Branch they had 570 yards of offense, scored 41 points and had 3 turnovers inside the West Branch 15 yard line that killed drives.
Just wonder if their defense can stop good teams?

Regina has has really come on the last couple of weeks. (No Class 1A team would have come close to Xavier or Solon this year)

Bellevue at Regina could be a very good first round game.

What about a Wilton-West Branch matchup? Could be a tight game too. Especially if Lukuvsky is still out. How is he doing. I hear no break, bad sprain. Never can tell with a sprain.
