Playoff Predictions #1

Sigourney-Keota plays at Mepo in week 9. That loss will knock them out of the playoff hunt. West Lyon will be in.

Not necessarily but most likely you would be correct if they lose that game. RPI will be interesting at the very end because of all of the teams who could be in the hunt for a spot with their records combined with opponents and opponents opponents records. Also if any ties at the top of districts will make things interesting as well.

Which team is Cascade beating in the final two weeks?

If they lose this week against WB, they have to defeat Bellevue or they're out. 5-4 teams do not make the playoffs.

In my opinion Cascade will lose both big. This district is not nearly as good as it was first thought to be. Not a lot of quality wins out of this district. To be honest basically the same as every other “good” team in 1A. The best thing that could happen for Bellevue or West Branch to get to the Semi Finals is they have to go through each other. I do not see either of these teams beating Pella Christian or DNH.

So Beasty and I have basically told this Scout dude that his projections are useless. And we will both be proven right.

As for Bellevue or WB losing to Dike or PC, dont sell them short. A good QB and RB combo like WB has can take a team far. Bellevue needs Clausen to get healthy

So Clausen is injured? I see he didn't play their last game.

You can look at it anyway you want. Predictions are just that predictions. Some may turn out and some may not. So what happens if West Branch wins against Cascade tonight and then Cascade beats Bellevue? Would I still be way off? If that happens don’t you think all three make it? I do and that’s where some of prediction comes from. So I guess time will tell. Appreciate the insight!

AP beating Sumner causes some rethinking. Not sure they can make it now.
I think Sumner losing elevates both South Hamilton and Underwood into the playoffs. This would cause West Branch, Bellevue, Wilton, and Mediapolis pretty isolated from the rest of the state geographically unless they throw Bellevue with Dike, Osage, and South Hamilton then move Pella Christian, Wilton, West Branch, and Mediapolis together.

So hypothetical Cascade wins next week creating a three way tie in their district. Does a 6-3 team jump a 7-2 team?

1 of them is in as Champion(Highest RPI)...the other 2 are at large qualifiers.
The way I read it is, they will all be automatic qualifiers. Only way a 3 way tie doesn’t make you an automatic qualifier is if there is 3 Districts or more with a 3 way tie. (Causing more then 16 teams to qualify).

Sounds like Cascade will be without one of their best offensive linemen for the Bellevue game. Parker Wright was ejected from the game for punching a West Branch kid. By rule that means he is out for the next game as well. It will seriously hurt the Cougars' chances. I watched Cascade v Waukon game earlier this year. Wright is a very large and agile human.

But if you are going to have an actual website and post it, at least dive in deeper to your predictions. You had to know a few of the following details:

1 If Cascade lost they would be in serious trouble.
2 Cascade played WB and Bellevue the final two weeks.
3 Sigourney and Mediapolis play in Week 9
4 The loser of Sig and Mepo has no mathematical chance of making it in due to the RPI (that you say you used to help determine things)
5 Sigourney lost to Wapello so they are eliminated
6 South Hamilton will make it on RPI if they win out. Mathematical certainty

Predictions are fun. But don't pee on me and tell me its rainin'

Like in another thread where Dike was bolded as a district champion? Is that what happens when someone dives in and does their homework?

Nothing is settled whatsoever in district 6. Regina is playing extremely well and I think it will be a very tight game on Friday. Regina has been able to mix the run and pass very well the last few weeks and when a team is doing that, they are tough to beat.
