Pitch counts

Are in starting in 2017. This will certainly change the game for the 1A/2A schools, especially during the tournament series. I've heard of kids going over 150 pitches this postseason, which will be a thing of the past.

It'll be more representative than the current pitching limitation rules in Iowa.

By the IHSAA rule, if a reliever comes in, throws one pitch for one out to end an inning, he is charged/credited with a full inning pitched for the limitation formula.

Or, if you focus on complete innings, there will be pitchers that could cruise through 3 outs in <10 pitches, and sometimes it will take 30+. Right now, those two scenarios count the same.

Yeah, I was surprised the coaches were so universally against it. I've dealt with it for years in little league; it's kind of a pain to keep track of but overall the intent is good. Some states count outs as sort of a compromise. Here's an interesting look at state-by-state rules, but not sure how current it is.
