Pella - Solon

Hard to pick against Pella until somebody beats them. They've won what, 38 straight, and two consecutive championships?

Numbers-wise Pella has about 700 more yards in total offense, almost 250 yards more on the ground and almost 500 yards more passing; they average 6.9 yards per carry, compared to Solon's 5.1. Pella hasn't allowed more than 14 points in a game all year, with five shutouts. Since losing to Regina Week 2, Solon has three shutouts and hasn't given up more than 15 points (that to Washington).

It would appear to be a competitive game, but I would say Solon needs some turnovers and big plays going their way to win this one.

Solon has some very nice wins this year, but Pella has been 3A's daddy for a few years now.

Pella wins by a couple touchdowns.

Best team that each team has played this year, I expect a competitive game, but Pella never really in trouble, similar to Pella's semifinal game against West Delaware last year.

Like opponent - Osky
Solon 34
Osky 3

Pella 34
Osky 14

Turnovers will be key, Solon is +11 I believe in that area.

Solon has also played #1 Regina, #1 Mt. vernon and #3 Washington (rankings where when they played them).

Well, can't really help you there. Haven't seen Pella play since 2014 (although I might have watched some of their championship game last year on TV), and the last time I saw Solon was September 2015. So I don't have in-person opinions to share this season.

I know they are both very strong programs, Solon seems to be improving later in the season, and Pella has been on a three-year roll leaving everybody else in their wake. Pella would have to be the favorite, but Solon has a chance, and I think will keep it within 10 points, anyway. I think.

But none of that is based on seeing either team this year.

Pella and Solon are far enough apart that it makes it tough to have seen them both, live. The Osky folks would be the ones to talk to, and I haven't. It appears that Solon handled Osky easier then Pella did. But, as we have seen many times, it is tough to beat a good team twice in a season, especially a rival, so still a good win.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the # of penalties Pella had last Friday. Had 15 penalties for about 150 yards. They shot themselves in the foot, time after time. They ended up converting several third and forevers, and that is living on the edge. Won't fly against better teams.

Understand that opinions can be better when having seen both teams play live. Unfortunately, that isn't and can't be the case much of the time. But hey, we can still put up our opinions anyway, never stopped us before!

In person, I have not seen Pella. On Hudl, I have seen them. They are very good and have a talented QB\WR.

Talked to an Osky parent - they thought if both teams played how they played against Osky, Solon wins by a TD.

Should be a heck of a game.

Also I will go on record as saying I'm pulling for Solon maybe that's why I picked them to get beat by 17...teams I want to win never do, I'm rotten luck.

Luck might be changing however with the Cubs victory.

Just wanted to see how everyone is getting their ideas. Past success holds more weight than it should but that's just how it is, and it does matter when it comes to the kids' psyche.

Wish I could make it out for this one as I imagine it's going to be a packed house with an awesome atmosphere. Anyone hearing about what the turn out might look like?

How do you get access to Hudl? Can anyone watch?

I've seen full games of both, not live, but full games. The one thing I will say about comparing Osky to both could be flawed in the sense that Osky and Pella have played every year since 7th grade, possibly earlier, where as Osky playing Solon was something new, teams and kids that know each other tend to be closer games.

Does Osky fighting for a playoff spot against Solon hold as much weight as a non-district rivalry game? I would hope that it holds quite a bit more.

Solon and Regina are big rivals and that game wasn't close.

Just some thoughts for discussion. Not necessarily disagreeing with you. What games did you watch Pella and Solon play?

Pella-Osky is a little different rivalry.

I'm really struggling with a Solon team that got shut out and held to 130 yds earlier in the season not having big problems with Pella's D.

Pella wins. Not going to predict a score but they will not be in jeopardy of losing in this game.

2nd game of the year - and ICR would Pella (or anyone in 3A) everything they wanted in a game as well.

Regardless of what game it was, I don't think a Final Four team should be shut out and only have 130 total yards. That's a good point Stickman80.

I will say, to Vroom's point, Regina would hang with anyone, and could beat anyone in 3A. Nonetheless, a 34-0 shutout for Solon is awfully glaring.

I do notice on Quik Stats that Graeson Dall had 0 returns and did not account for any yardage offensively. Looking at the stat lines for Solon's games after that (and against Mt. Vernon the week before) it appears Dall is one of Solon's biggest threats offensively as well as in the return game. Anyone know what the deal was there?

My recollection is that Dall injured his hand late in the Mt. Vernon game and did not play on offense against Regina.

Early in the year against Washington Washington was up something like 15-0 and Solon look really bad then 1 turnover by Washington it was like a light went on for Solon and they have never looked back.
Millers halftime speech that night turned the season around for them.

I still pick Pella tonight

Solon beat Regina 42-7 before Regina won a state title (same year)...deserving?

They actually beat Regina twice that year 42-7. 10-2 with two losses to one of the best high school teams to come out of this state. Solon taught Regina what was needed to compete at that level.

As an addition there wasn't any pissing and moaning about Morris and Ashton leaving Regina to go to Solon or about how the bracket sucked and was unfair. Congratulated them and worked on getting better.

I'm curious to know who has seen both of these teams play and has formed their opinion on this game based on that.

And last but not least, westside rules, who seems to be overly adamant that Pella will win.
How did my prediction of 17 points hold up?

Pretty close, I figured you could count to 14.

Not sure what your point was quoting my post. You must have read it as if I was saying that your prediction wouldn't be the case. I was just trying to hear everyone's opinions.

You just tried to troll someone that didn't disagree with you...

I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.
