The RPI ranks through week 8 are now out. Not a ton of movement in the top 10, but there are is some movement in the teens and things will be close between the last few spots. I am assuming Underwood wins and squeaks ahead of SF and Cascade will lose that will allow South Hamilton to just sneak into one of the last spots. Osage and Treynor are neck and neck for being the last district champ to host in the first round. I'm going with Treynor to have the higher RPI after week 9. Based on the current RPI rankings, and who I believe is going to win in week 9, here will be the following playoff teams and possible first-round matchups in my opinion:

Playoff Qualifiers based on their week 9 result:
Bellevue
South Central Calhoun
I-35, Truro
Van Meter
Pella Christian
West Branch
Dike-New Hartford
West Sioux
Wilton
Treynor
Osage
Mediapolis
West Lyon
Mount Ayr
Underwood
South Hamilton

District Champs after week 9 based on who I believe will win:
District 1: West Sioux
District 2: South Central Calhoun
District 3: Osage
District 4: Bellevue
District 5: Wilton
District 6: Dike-New Hartford
District 7: Pella Christian
District 8: Van Meter
District 9: Treynor

Qualifiers based on RPI based off week 9 performance:
West Branch
I-35, Truro
Mediapolis
West Lyon
Mount Ayr
Underwood
South Hamilton

Playoff Brackets: I did not have any district rematches in the first round. A couple teams may travel a considerable distance because of that. Again, the state will try and make a true bracket through the quarters using the final RPI after week 9, but geography will be the final factor in determining games.

West Bracket
Underwood @ West Sioux
West Lyon @ South Central Calhoun
Mount Ayr @ Treynor
I-35,Truro @ Van Meter

East Bracket
Osage @ Dike-New Hartford
Mediapolis @ Bellevue
West Branch @ Wilton
South Hamilton @ Pella Christian

* Osage being the lowest RPI district champ plays on the road and with proximity, I have them travel to DNH which could be a fairly entertaining game given Osage's offensive weapons.

My projections for quarterfinal games with RPI taken into account for hosting:

West Bracket
West Sioux @ South Central Calhoun
Treynor @ Van Meter

East Bracket
Dike-New Hartford @ Bellevue
West Branch @ Pella Christian

* I believe Van Meter won't have any trouble reaching the dome if this was to be the bracket
* I know this is a projection and based on what I believe will happen. A lot to get sorted out in the next 5 or so days. Thoughts?

You might be closer then me because you solve the problem of a Van Meter vs PC rematch and a West Branch Vs Bellevue rematch. Only thing I have an issue with is giving Van Meter such an easy road to the playoffs. Maybe I’m not giving I-35 enough respect, because playing an 8-1 team in the first round should be considered a tough match up.

Yeah I just didn’t know who else to put bc it would be a pretty easy road for Van Meter. I looked at the RPI but some of the travel was too far. Who do you see getting to the dome?

West Sioux, Van Meter, DNH, PC in your scenario which works out because I believe those are the top 4 teams. That would mean
Van Meter vs West Sioux
PC vs DNH
In semifinals

I don’t think VM or West Sioux will have much trouble at all getting to the dome. West Sioux is playing on another level

Another quirk in the RPI about these final 4 match-ups would be it appears there is a good chance Pella Christian will jump over Van Meter if PC beats I-35. (Hmmmmmm...I'll save that for another thread.) Anyway, that would mean that IF those 4 teams make the Dome and West Sioux doesn't leap over DNH in the same way, that based on the final Week 9 RPI, I believe it would be Pella Christian (#1) vs. West Sioux (#4) and Van Meter (#2) vs. DNH (#3). Right?

If Osage can leap frog Treynor and get a home game. It really screws up the entire playoff field. That would put Osage, SCC, DNH and Bellevue all with in pretty close proximity of each other with not a lot of at large teams to go around. I see a scenario of West Lyon going to Osage, South Hamilton going to Bellevue, I-35 going to DNH, and Underwood going to SCC. Alot of travel, but geographically it is a nightmare if Osage gets the home game.

That appears to be very likely because Osage's 'opponents record' is so much stronger than Treynor's OR...and Osage's OR should get another boost this week while Treynor's OR will probably most likely go down. That will be interesting to see how that changes things if at all.

I still have a hard time believing that they won't have West Lyon @ West Sioux for a first round game.

I agree but it’s very rare they match up two teams from the same district in the first round. If they try and stay close to RPI, it will match up Van Meter and West Sioux in the quarterfinals. We will see how closely the boys in Boone stick to their own rules.

I think a couple years ago Western and West Lyon matched up bc there was on one else in the NW corner of the state close enough. I could see that being the reason is because of the isolation in that part

I kind of remember that, but was there 3 teams that qualified out of their district?
