GMG High School has an opening for Head Football

Not sure who would want to step into GMG Athletic's mess. It is not just a football issue there, but a parent/athlete issue there and it goes all sports wide (male and female). May fill it from within with a coach that has been turned down 2 times when was in school.

The biggest problem that I see with GMG is that over half of their enrollment are open enrolled kids from Marshalltown, to me this leads to a big part of the school community to have a certain disconnect from the school and the athletics.

I don't really think that it is the AD's fault you can only do so much with what they have at the school.

If it is the same teacher/coach I think you would be referring to, I don't think it would be a great choice.

I think GMG should have made the move to 8 man a year ago, and they are playing out of their league.

I don't think I would say it is the AD's fault either. I do think there is a HUGE disconnect from the school with all the students GMG gets from Marshalltown.

I am not sure I see wins to come. Hopefully GMG makes the move to 8 man in the next redistrict year.

Any word that BCLUW's former head coach Penick is interested in going back to coach GMG? I don't recall when or why he stopped coaching at BCLUW, but I believe he was GMG's head football coach in the early 90's.

Has anyone been hired for this job yet?

GMG should have decent numbers they had 37 kids out last year, and only 1 senior.

If the high school were not housed in Garwin, I thought they should have tried to merge into the BCL-UW or Gladrook-Reinbeck mix a long time ago. It might make sense they just disband the school and have the remaining Green Mountain students go into Marshalltown and the Garwin students into G-R.

GMG and BCLUW share the same superintendent so I think you could see that consolidation eventually. The thing about GMG is that they have a relatively new elementary and did quite a bit of work at the high school, including a new gym 2 or 3 years ago, so I am not sure they really want to combine with anyone.

A lot of the schools nowadays with multiple towns like these keep their own elementary schools then start combining in middle school or even high school. So the elementary should be of minimal issue. The high school might be a different situation though.

If GMG were to merge with any other school, I think EM might be more likely. They have shared Wrestling for years and a high school in Legrand is more centralized.
