There is a lot of question marks in 2A for next year, so disagreement is welcome, I start with Williamsburg because they return their QB and a 1000 yard rusher, and quite a bit on defense. PCM 2nd because it appears to me that they return just about everyone except their QB and face a easy district. Waukon 3rd with all that they return at just about every skilled position but may not have the greatest size up front, Mount Vernon is forth because of Drew Adams, if they fill in the pieces around him then they could easily be all the way up to 1 but I think this is a fair place to put them. SCC brings back most of their passing game and a lot on defense. Central Lyon seems like the best of NW Iowa but that is always a tough area. Cascade was a good team that got overshadowed last year and brings back a ton. Sioux Center seems poised to get back atop the district 1 standings and challenge CL/GLR and BH/RV. BH/RV out of respect, and Dike out of respect and they play in an easy district.

I would like to say Southeast valley is a top 10 team but 15 seniors all of which played extensively, and only 5 jrs on team ,i think next year will be a rebuilding year.

I wouldn't overlook the defending state champs. They do lose quite a few key player on offense while on the other hand they were already playing a lot of sophomores on the defensive side. Having seen them play a few times in the past they sure have the athletes. I wouldn't be surprised if they get through the season again with a good record including wins over Sioux Center and Central Lyon.

I know Cascade well and while returning a ton they still lose their starting QB but have some good options moving forward. They will be very solid on the line on both sides of the ball returning a host of starters and have good running backs and receivers returning. I think the biggest challenge will again be in a very tough District 4. My guess is Union, Waukon and NFV will continue to be tough. While Anamosa was down last year their JV team was pretty solid. It consisted of mainly sophs that I don't believe they moved up. Expect them to be much better.

I agree that Cascade will be very good next year. They were fairly good this last season but yes like you said NFV and Union were to much and were both top 4 teams in the State. I think the top 4 team in District for will do a Flop and Waukon and Cascade will make the playoffs leaving Union and NFV out.

I agree with this, NFV lost a ton of talent, and I don't think they will be able to just reload as in past years, I watched a JV game of theirs and was not impressed. Another wildcard in that district could be Columbus, they have been bad at the Varsity level recently but I believe I read when they forfeited to NFV last year, they didn't want to play their JV on varsity and ruin their experience of an undefeated season.

Ehh, Columbus is a bit of a stretch I think, watched one of their Freshman/ JV games as well and wasn't very impressed. Beckman could hop NFV and Union. Beckman never stays down for long.

1. Waukon (Snitker is the deal breaker for me over Cascade)
2. Cascade
3. Beckman
4. Union, LPC
5. NFV
6. Monticello
7. Columbus
8. Oelwein (awful)

As for district 4. Monticello while not doing much last year are returning a good QB and very solid RB. Don't know if they will get enough help to make a difference but both are solid players. Same goes with Beckman. They return a very solid QB and RB but 2 positions do not make a team. They did graduate most of their receiving yards. They should be in the mix at the top of a very tough district. By top I mean 4 or even 5 could be solid in 2AD4.

Cascade will start the season with a couple players that missed most or all of last season due to late baseball season injuries that would have been major impact players. Lines will be solid as well and have a very good returning RB and another soph RB that was outstanding in JV last year. The QB will probably be a junior who didn't play at all last year but looked solid in JV as a Fr and showed ability in Jr High. He's a good sized kid who is athletic and could be a potential weapon running the ball. Cascade will not have a lot of depth anywhere so staying healthy will be a key to their success.

Based off past history one would expect Union, NFV and Waukon all to be very solid.

Gazette doesn't even have Cascade in the best of the rest and IaPreps have them finishing 2nd in the very tough 2AD4.

Cascade looked good in the scrimmage against Anamosa Friday. Anamosa never put the ball in the end zone and Cascade did 4 times on offense and would have a couple more on interceptions blown dead that would have scored. Health will still be a key to Cascade's success. They have the players but are not extremely deep.
