Im gonna guess Oskaloosa is gonna have someone on the All State team, Xavier Foster or Cole Henry and probably both.

my guess when the INA All State comes out one of them will be 1st team and 1 2nd team...They choose 6 spots for those teams instead of just the 5.

The difference between classes can be summed up in 1 example. Ryle Koenig would be lucky to get anything more than honorable mention all conference if he was still with Burlington. Yet at Burlington Notre Dame in 1A he is potentially an all state selection.

I will do my 2a and 1a lists tonight. I didn't go below 18 kph in 3a so likely missed foster and Henry because of that. Really just meant to start some thoughts and conversation. If I went more in depth assists steals blocks and rebounds would be involved. Making minor list adjustments.

Xavier Foster and Cole Henry of Oskaloosa belong on somebody's all-state team. I've seen five of maxstab's 3A and 4A picks play in person this year, and no complaints about the picks, but these two guys, especially Foster, are really good. I've only seen Weiskamp on film, but he's the real deal. I haven't seen McCaffery or Sims play this year (saw them last year), but the two most impressive players I've seen in person are A. J. Green of Cedar Falls and Xavier Foster, who could be sensational if and when he decides to put his mind to it.

I think your comment about Xavier sums him up pretty well. seen this comment on many posts. He DOES NOT have the IT factor. I mean the factor that says “ I’m the best damn player out here and I’m going to kick your butt”!...he is SOFT...

I thought I should edit this post and add that I (we) need to remember that Xavier is only a sophomore. He still has a lot of maturing to do both on and off the court. I believe that when he is done he will be one of the all time greats to come out of Iowa!

Well, Bulldog, I tried to say it delicately, but as an example of what you just said, Wahlert Coach Tom English's strategy in their nail-biter win against Oskaloosa went totally against what some would think of doing. He had his undersized (but battle-worn) forwards and post player (none of whom will be on a top all-state list) pound the ball inside against Osky, and Wahlert's three front-liners accounted for 19, 16, and 15 points against the Indians' towering inside men. And Xavier fouled out in the OT. A kid like West's Seybian Sims would have done even better inside.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Xavier. I just think he needs a “badass” side to him. The kid has all the physical skills to be the best player to come out of Iowa since Harrison Barnes. I just don’t know if he has the “inner” skills....time will tell and I hope by the time he is a senior he has found it.

My only disagreement to this list is not having Drake Johnson. I was very close to replacing Schnurr on the list. Johnson is one of the most well rounded players in the state.

2A All State

Cade Daugherty
Parker Badding
Logan Hoffman
Jacob Vis
Trenton Massner

Just outside: Isaac Prewitt, Peyton Pope, Zaine Leedom, Ryan Meyers, Luke Empen

Drake should have been on my others to mention list. His stats are great, although I think he's playing is a terrible conference.

In Stanton's only loss, they lost to a Griswold team that has only 1 win. Drake scored 23 pts in that game, but it took 28 shots to get there. He's a good player, but I think his stats would be much different if he played in the Western Iowa conference.

Since you mentioned Schnurr. He should be in there above Johnson because he has been putting up solid numbers vs better schools. Ex - he did well vs Algona and Forest City and his team won vs both.

Unless Drake Johnson is 100% better than he was last year...he should not be in the conversation for All-State. I have not seen him play this year, but saw him a few times last year and he was nowhere near North Linn's and Grand View's guards.
