Lewis Central Defeats Valley (Summary)

Just got back from watching one heck of a football game and wanted to share some thoughts before turning in.
The game tonight was a defensive battle, Valley scored on a 50 yard TD that the LC defensive back actually tipped into the arms of the Valley receiver for a TD. That was Valley's only score in the first half and actually they never really put a drive together. LC had a 85 yard run up the middle and recovered a fumble on a QB sack which resulted in a drive and score. Halftime score was 14-7 LC.

Valley very much shut down the LC offense in the second half and the same can be said for LC Defense controlling Valley. Game goes into OT with LC scoring on a QB sneak and then the LC Defense stopping valley with a big sack on 3rd down and a incomplete pass to end the game.

I was totally impressed with LC Defense, I watched them once before holding the state leading rusher to 85 yards but that was not a valley caliber team. I believe they are ranked as the top defense in the state and tonight they showed it. Valley really did very little against LC. I was really surprised how much pressure they put on the Valley QB, he was literally under fire the entire night. On the flip side for LC to continue their winning ways they need to get some offense going, they never were able to sustain a drive therefore having their defense on the field all night. With that said, it was crappy conditions with stiff winds. In any event Congrats to LC on very big win, I was not planning on going back to Des Moines next week but I think I might ride along with a friend and cheer LC on

Good Morning to all, my fingers have warmed enough for me to post on what would be an ESPN Classic if they covered Iowa HS Football
I agree with the summary above and would add a few facts and observations for those unable to attend the game. I will be honest since I live in West DSM I thought I would slip by this game and watch for a quarter ( my buddy is a Valley fan and wanted me to keep him company) then head on over to watch Waukee/Ank Cent. I came and never left, it was that exciting.
The thoughts I had and I'm sure many Valley fans had was "Lewis Central had a few busted plays resulting in a score but soon this will be over and the Tigers will roll and win by 21" What I never realized and I'm sure others if they would admit it is "CBLC came to Valley thinking they would win this game" you could see it all over the field in there body language. As the saying goes "they never blinked"

As far a players performance and my personal observations:

Valley
Lombardi had a good night throwing the ball when given time. He was under pressure most of the night but stood tall, with that he took some shots along the way. I looked at a stat sheet and he was close to 200 yards passing for the night. Lombordi impressed me, like his brother he's a tough kid, honestly a better passer then what I had given him credit for.

Mason is so football quick it's scary. I swear there were times when tacklers had a beat on him only to tackle air. I along with many others thought it was only a matter of time before Mason broke a long TD run, it never happened. I believe I heard he was right around 100 yards rushing, guessing on around 25 carries as they used him a lot. Mason had a very good season and gave it all he had last night.

Remsburg is good and will only get better. He had a tough draw last night but worked his tail off. I can see why Iowa State made him an early offer.

Lastly the Valley Defense played great. They gave up an 80 yards play but other then that they controlled the CBLC offense and Duggan. I believe Duggan threw for under 50 yards on the night, not many teams can say they held that kid to under 50 yards passing

CBLC

Bridgeford who is a smaller version of Mason busted a long run ( guessing 80 yards) to give CBLC a 14 point lead and ended the night with around 100 yards rushing. Not a lot of offense on the night for LC but this kid is quick and fast and has good numbers on the year.

Deyo is a d-linemen that was announced a lot and applied pressure all night, I know he contributed on the OT sack that was very instrumental in the games outcome

Hatcher/Shu 2 inside backer who really made some big plays, they were all over the field. I thought they did an outstanding job filling and containing Mason. I had notes saying one of them had a pick ( sorry did not write down the name only inside backer)

Theobald. ya the kid has a motor remember 2 sacks, a fumble recovery and probably created 4-5 hurries for Lombardi (near misses) He also played most the snaps on Offense ( so on the field all night ) even announced on PA as long snapper. It was fun watching Theobald and Remsburg (OT) go head to head

Duggan without question not one of his best night from a stats point of view but the kid is a winner. He had a lot of carries ( guessing over 20) and took a physical beating. What I took away from the game is how tough he is. Not sure a lot of H.S.QB's would have finished that game.

All in ALL one heck of a fun night! Valley congratulations on a great season, CBLC continued success.

I am a fan of all teams from SWI so best of luck to Harlan, LC and SA as they enter round 2 of the playoffs.

My comments regarding LC from what I've observed over the 2 big games I watched ( one being the Valley game) and what I hear from buddies who are much closer to the program.
The players just play, they honestly don't care who they play they know they will be considered "underdogs" being the smallest or one of the smallest 4A school so does it really matter? When you think about it for L.C to line up at Valley who's 3 times LC enrollment and for them not to be a little intimidated with the environment or size difference speaks volumes about the players and coaches. like the poster above said " no one told them they were not suppose to win Friday Night or if they did the players said **** em!"

Like I mentioned earlier and I laughed when my buddy said it "they have a group of guys that will lend you a hand to help you up after a tackle then punch you in the mouth the very next play" just their mentality and how they play.

I"ll end by saying "LC may or may-not win Friday Night, the odds are against them just like last week but past history say they won't be intimidated ...just ask Valley"
