Two things
before going into the main list. Although I tried hard to get all
the all conference and the all districts lists from across the State,
there are a lot that were missing. Because there are not a great
deal of sophomores playing varsity, it was tough at times for this list.
However, I did make posts on the football board about it and this list is
final. If there are players I should keep an eye on in the future,
please email me at Luke@Rivals.com.
And for the second thing, if you are a sophomore who has not played
varsity, it doesn't mean you won't be able to play college football.
Look for example at Pat Angerer and Travis Rhone, two of the top seniors
this year. Both were not brought up to varsity until their junior
year. And now on to the list:
DL
Andrew Billerbeck
Gladbrook-Reinbeck
Starter for the Rebel team that made it to
the championship game before bowing out to Council Bluffs St. Albert.
DL
Leon Drake
Chariton
Drake was a man among boys this past year
and earned just about every All State honor possible. He has a very
bright future ahead of him.
DL
Jason Killeen
Kuemper Catholic
This all district pick helped get Kuemper
Catholic in the postseason.
LB
T.J. Hicks
Nodaway Valley
Hicks stepped up his play at linebacker to
lessen the loss of three All State seniors the year before.
LB
Scott Wagner
Ankeny
Not very often do sophomores start on
varsity for Ankeny, but Wagner made a name for himself by playing smart
and hard football.
LB
Adam Gregerson
Gilbert
This sophomore helped his team make a deep
postseason run and surprise Class 2A fans along the way.
LB
Donavon Grove
Southeast Webster
An all district selection, Grove made a name
for himself during the regular season.
LB
Joel Godfredsen
Armstrong-Ringsted
Godfredsen did the same as he earned second
team all district honors.
LB
Adam Martensen
Iowa City Regina
Although the majority of the Regina players
were juniors, Martensen made an impact early and often at the varsity
level. He was a first team all district selection and was
honored by the Press Citizen.
DB
Tyler Sash
Oskaloosa
This multi-sport athlete is outstanding at
football and basketball but earned his first All State honors on the
football field. He is explosive on both sides of the ball.
DB
Eric Hammes
Sigourney-Keota
Hammes was the only sophomore starter on the
Savage Cobra team that finished undefeated in the regular season.
DB
Michael Lahart
Chariton
Like his teammate Leon Drake, Lahart did
some amazing things as a sophomore. He picked off seven passes and
took three of them in for touchdowns.
Stayed tuned as
IowaPreps.com will be bringing more on the top sophomores and juniors
across the State of Iowa.
