(At least I’m pretty sure I’ve got it ...)

With all the results in from Week 5, here’s what I’ve got with my (rebuilt) spreadsheet and Class 3A RPI. Like the state says, anything put out that’s not by them isn’t official, but ... I’m pretty confident here. This is what I’ve got for a top 25, plus the leader in D-2 at number 32.

  1. Sergeant Bluff-Luton (D-1, 4-1) / .7213
  2. Clear Creek-Amana (D-5, 5-0) / .7037
  3. Lewis Central (D-9, 5-0) / .6995
  4. Heelan (D-1, 4-1) / .6757
  5. Xavier (D-4, 5-0) / .6722
  6. Storm Lake (D-1, 4-1) / .6710
  7. Spencer (D-1, 4-1) / .6645
  8. Solon (D-6, 5-0) / .6620
  9. Pella (D-7, 5-0) / .6608
  10. Harlan (D-9, 4-1) / .6599
  11. North Scott (D-5, 4-1) / .6506
  12. ADM (D-9, 4-1) / .6256
  13. Waverly-Shell Rock (D-3, 4-1) / .6201
  14. Charles City (D-3, 4-1) / .6185
  15. Western Dubuque (D-4, 4-1) / .6179
  16. Oskaloosa (D-7, 4-1) / .6133
  17. Bondurant-Farrar (D-8, 4-1) / .6034
  18. Ballard (D-8, 4-1) / .5981
  19. Decorah (D-3, 3-2) / .5978
  20. Independence (D-3, 4-1) / .5966
  21. Denison-Schleswig (D-1, 3-2) / .5918
  22. LeMars (D-1, 3-2) / .5834
  23. Glenwood (D-9, 3-2) / .5747
  24. West Delaware (D-3, 3-2) / .5506
  25. Clinton (D-5, 3-2) / .5481
...
32. Boone (D-2, 3-2) / .4972

I would mention what would happen if things end up as they stand now (Osky getting knocked out by Boone, four D-1 teams in), but I won’t, because they won’t. The strong RPIs in D-1 are thanks to everyone having stellar records, which will start to get worse as they play each other. The fact of the matter is, even with 5 games of data things are very much in flux. Things that are interesting: The top RPI team at 4-1 ranks above five undefeated teams; the lowest-ranked 5-0 team is Pella, but that’s below all the D-1 4-1 teams that can’t mathematically stay there; the top 3-2 team (Decorah) would miss the playoffs if things stayed as they are today (but they won’t).

i suspect lewis central will win it this year, they seem to be the top kid on the block, just dominating everyone they play. lewis central had over 500 yrd against creston, elite qb duggan was 15 of 19 for 250 yd. their receiver simmon, 8 catches for 180 yrds . that combination of duggan and simmons will be tough for anyone to stop, and they play deep ball too. lewis central also has a dominating defense ..i am not sure what the east has, but they will have to be very good to compete agaist the titans. also, playing 4a the last 2 years, lewis central will not be imtimidated by anyone.. coach duggan has th titans playing on another level, lewis central could now be a top tier 3a team with coach duggan at the helm
