Not that they needed him vs BCLUW, but I saw they All-State RB Stoakes didn't play.

Does he have an injury?

banged up his hip during practice last week. wanted to sit him out for Denver this week..

Coaches have done this in the past with other players. If a player isn't 100 percent and there is a "bigger" game coming up then he will get limited or no play. There is usually talent behind him and it is good to give reps for the backups and underclassmen. Stoakes could have played played if needed.

GR was up 57-0 in the first half, they had two personal fouls called on them on a punt (one was on the bench). At that point the GR coach reinserted his starters into the game.

Stay classy.

The penalties backed them up inside the ten. The coaches inserted varsity to get them better field position.

What would the score need to be before he wasn't worried about field position?

Up that much you don't put starters back in period. The mercy rules need to be change back to the time when they stopped the game. The current rule is so kids can play that normally don't in a blowout. Clearly adults can't be trusted to act like adults so they need to just stop the game. What is the point of GR starters teeing off on bcluw at that point?

The point was to get them out of the shadow of the end zone then hand it over to the jv. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The GR's JV should have been able to do that vs BCLUW. If I were GR's coach, I would have just let it ride. Which is worse....having the JV potentially let BCLUW score 6 points or have a starter turn an ankle during a game when the team is already up 50+ points????

Hey I get it but it wasn't classless. Maybe not what you would want if you were worried about injuries. There was no running up the score in a classless way. The first string rb didn't play. Second string rb played part of the 1st quarter and the full back carried 11 times before handing it to the jv and fr rb's. Really making something out of nothing.

There is never an easy answer to this scenario. There is a pride thing about not being scored on. More snaps for your 1st string, means more experience, a chance to try different things. Practice doesn't cut it sometimes. These small class schools don't have the numbers to put up a full defensive squad against their offense. If you play pattycake all year then you're hurting yourself in the playoffs. Like I said there is no easy answer to this.

GR has about 50 kids on their roster, their was no excuse for it. It wasn't a numbers issue, it was nothing but a coach who lost his temper after two personal fouls were called against them and put his starters back in to stick it somebody, who I don't know.

If that doesn't show a lack of class in your opinion I wonder what you would consider a lack of class.

My point was, even with 50 kids on your roster, (very similar to my school) the opposing defense to the first sting offense in practice is usually comprised of lower classmen /second string kids. So the competition is never equal to what you see in a game. I wasn't there to judge any "classless " act, and unless this coach would come out and admit his intentions, I wouldn't attempt to read his mind.
