What am I missing on Iowa City West? You're not the only one I've seen with a high opinion of them going into this season, but didn't they lose quite a bit of talent from last year's team? Plus they've got a new coach. It's just not usually the kind of circumstances you see around a highly ranked team.

I'm going to be the first to say that Southeast Polk is ranked too high...I know I will take a lot of flack from the other SEP faithful, but they have a lot of holes that are being filled with unproven talent. Combine that with another tough Non-District schedule (although no Dowling Catholic will help) and I am going to say that they will likely enter District play at 1-3 or 2-2.

They SHOULD win their District, although I would not sleep on Ames, who will be trying to replace a TON of offensive firepower and Coach Z is building something at Ankeny.

I hope that SEP surprises and are able to find significant contributors by playoff time (especially on the offensive side of the ball) but my guess is that they are not with the elite programs on the West side of the state (Dowling, Waukee).

Again, as an SEP backer, I hope they prove me wrong.

I think SEP is in there due to the fact that even though they have quite a few holes to fill, the players they have returning are really high-caliber college prospect type players. The defense will be very tough and like you mentioned they need to find some play makers on offense, especially at quarterback.

I have the same feelings about Johnston. Yes they have quite a few players coming back from last year but they have real problems on defense where they just are not very good. Also, I would say the offense would have been really explosive right up until Jordan Weddington moved to Georgia for his senior year. So, I don't think they are a Top 10 team either. Probably finish 5-4, 4-5 somewhere in there.

What about Centennial? I know they have their QB coming back but didn't they lose quite a few starters as well?

Where are all the Council Bluffs and Sioux City guys for the updates on the Western side of the state?

In the Eastern Half of the state I think CRW is the top team. CRK, Bett, NS and ICW might follow. CRP, ICH, DH and CF could all turn up a notch.

Wow, Dowling Catholic starts off with a brutal schedule!!

#2 Waukee, #3 WDM Valley and a rematch of the State Championship game against CR Xavier all in the first 4 weeks.

That stated, here is my Class 4A Preseason Top 10:
1) Dowling Catholic
2) Dowling Catholic junior varsity team
3) Dowling Catholic sophomore team
4) Dowling Catholic freshmen team
5) The rest of the field

Only slightly kidding. Actually, I think Dowling will be 3-1 after their first 4 games. #2 Waukee returns a ton of talent from a team that only lost to Dowling 14-9 in the State Quarterfinals last year. Dowling then plays at #3 Valley the next week after Waukee.

Dowling will finish the regular season 8-1 though with their only tough test after Week 4 being #10 Johnston.

I think IC West is ranked to high. New coach new QB tough schedule I see them winning 5 games this year. They lost stud Nate Boland#39;s and Anthony battie along with a good lineman zach ranshaw Tyler eeds is a stud and the rest is avg at best.
