With the 2014 baseball season wrapping up, it is now time to get your state title picks in for the 2014 football season. You are welcome to post just one class or all classes. We'll keep this thread around until the end of the season and see who is the smartest on the board.

4A - Dowling
3A - Heelan
2A - Cascade
1A - Regina
A - St Albert (but watch out for Maq Valley)
8 - Don Bosco

That's 5 of 6 private schools.

8-Man - Fremont-Mills

Huh, that's 4 of 6 public schools. I don't necessarily think that's how it's going to play out, but you could make just as strong an argument for my picks as you could for yours.

4A- Waukee
3A- Xavier
2A- Clear Lake
1A- Regina
A- St. Albert
8- Fremont Mills

First off, no way Kuemper replaces what they lost in last year's senior class. And it only takes one look at their baseball team to see that Kuemper won't necessarily just plug in a bunch of new guys who are just as good as Neary, Drees, etc. West Lyon is in 1A this year, too.

+1 tm3308. Kuemper had a TON of skilled seniors on that team and although they do bring a few guys back I do not see that being enough to win state. As I said on a previous thread they may not run away with their own district either. I will give the prediction a shot too.

4A- Dowling
3A- Heelan
2A- Clear Lake
1A- Regina
A- CBSA
8- Bosco

8-Fremont Mills

Not 100% on Clear Lake. Depends how the Diercks/Adams combo goes. For those taking Don Bosco in 8-man, do they have some secret quarterback I don't know about? Losing Hogan and a few other major statistical leaders is huge.

Don Bosco is still going to be pretty salty. I won't be shocked to see them reach the Dome (depending on how the playoffs are going to work), but I don't think they've got enough to go any further than the semis. I also don't think there's going to be any team that'll be nearly as tough to beat as last year's Exira squad. Don Bosco (nor any other team) will have to be as good as last year's Hogan-led group to win it all this year, IMO.

I really only follow eastern Iowa 4A. Washington is at the beginning of a 3 year run where they are going to be really good. But based on last year's title game, it does seem that the east side of the state will be producing a runner-up.

What makes you say that about Washington? They didn't really wow me last year; just seemed like a very workmanlike team that got the job done. And without Coker, Tanner Knupp, Covington and Sivels, I'm not sure I see how they're going to continue to play at such a high level. That's a lot to replace, especially in the backfield.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about Cedar Rapids Washington ("I really only follow eastern Iowa 4A") and not the last year's 3A runnersup Washington (Iowa). Cedar Rapids Washington should indeed have a good year this season.

Yeah, that was my bad. Reading is hard.
Or maybe it's just time for Luke to un-do the offseason forum and get the individual class forums rolling. To prevent this kind of tragic misunderstanding.
