4A #2-ranked Dubuque Senior suffered a huge blow Sunday when star post man and leading scorer, junior Noah Carter, underwent emergency surgery for severe "compartment syndrome," an emergency that if not treated immediately can cause loss of limb or permanent muscle damage.
Carter's left leg was severely bruised in a game against Davenport Central about two weeks ago, and he sustained anther injury in practice on Sunday. Later that evening, with excruciating pain and a foot turning blue, the family rushed him to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to decompress the severe swelling that was strangling the lower leg muscles and circulation. He is to have another surgery today. Carter is expected to miss at least six weeks or more. He was averaging over 21 points a game and shooting 65%. From a family of gifted athletes, he is the younger brother of Josh Carter, the Wahlert star who helped his team to two state championships. Senior plays Cedar Rapids Kennedy tonight. A year ago, Senior lost star point guard Carter Stephens for a similar period with a foot injury. Sure hope Noah heals up soon.
