Valley whooped up Bett and handled Waukee. They look really good this year. Meanwhile, Dowling has done reasonably well against Ankeny and Urbandale but haven't lit the world on fire.

I'm a big Dowling homer, shocker. But I am very nervous for the fightin' Wilson's. Dowling has not taken care of the ball offensively, far too many interceptions against Urbandale. It'll take a herculean effort from the Maroon defense who just gave up 248 passing yards to the J-Hawks. They'll have a task on their hands in stopping Lombardi and Javon Mason. No predictions yet, but this is going to be a big one.

Valley Week.

Dowling will really need to score, and keep Valley from scoring. If Dowling can score more than Valley, Dowling should win. If not, they will probably lose.

Can't believe I just wasted 5 seconds reading the previous post.......No Matter how either team is playing coming into this game, it is alway a toss up. Will be interesting to see if Lombardi can handle the pressure. Think this has been his issue in the past. Sometimes loses his control when game pressure cranks up. Not saying his role is easy, but to play at the upper levels.....needs to handle the pressure. Each team has its "playmakers"! As always would be a great game to watch.

Of the three "p" s of football, (pressure, penalties and points) points are the most important. Points will definitely be the key to victory for each team. But penalties are bad.

its hard to know. I can tell you that I'm less worried than I was at this time last year when Valley had just mauled SEP and Waukee and Dowling had a near loss to urbandale and a one TD win against Waukee. I sometimes wonder if Dowling intentionally plays differently so as to not give Valley anything to work with in scouting.

I'm obviously not a coach but my intuition would be to just gamble and put the pass rush on Lombardi. Dowling has a more than capable D-Line, Valley has an OL that the jury is out on so if Dowling can get to a point where they dictate the game, they should be in a good position (Dowling's main thing is avoiding turnovers).

Fair play to Valley, it was a hard-fought win for the Tigers. The Maroons simply could not move the football. And that probably had something to do with an absolute inability to throw the football. Valley's defense was able to stack the box and stuff Dowling's run game.

Credit to the Maroon defense, what a great effort from both the front 7 and secondary. When Dowling went for it on 4th down late in the game around the 20 yard line, I thought it was the right move. But Lombardi's scramble (great blocking by his O-line and a smart cut by Lombardi) won Valley that game. I'm sure they'll see one another later in the season.

I have to agree. Not sure why you'd rely on two defensive linemen "attempting" to make a hole for the QB over just giving it to Zachary/Deskin, who was having success that drive already. Can't wait to see them play later in the season.

Is Dowling rotating two quarterbacks again this season?

it sort of looks like that was the direction they were going on Friday. Nonetheless, Dowling's schedule gets easier from this point out (although centennial has some talent) so they can afford to let zachary and deskin carry the game for them.

They only went away from Wilson once it became near impossible for any passing game to be established. But the 2nd QB wasn't much better at establishing any kind of passing game. I hate to criticize, but neither looked like they could make a strong or accurate throw.
