District 7 and District 8 HERE!

Well, last week was a real game changer as far as the playoffs go. I guess I have been wrong before, so being wrong on how good the Mighty Hawks were and Griswold being the team to beat is been a disappointment. Still think that we can get our mojo back and be a tough out in the playoffs. Here are last weeks results and next weeeks games with picks.

District 7Audubon 27, Woodward Academy 0
Earlham 47, Bedford 22
Guthrie Center 29, Martensdale-St. Marys 10
Madrid 44, Woodward-Granger 8

District 8A-H-S-T, Avoca 10, East Mills 0
Logan-Magnolia 63, Underwood 0
Riverside, Oakland 22, Griswold 19
Westwood, Sloan 37, West Monona, Onawa 22

Only 1 game in district 7 that matters. That is GC vs. Earlham for the right to makethe playoffs. In District 8, you have 2 great games in East Mills at Griswold and LOMA at AHST.

District 7Bedford at Madrid: Madrid will put 50 on the board like the old days. Bedford can't stop anyone.
Earlham at Guthrie Center: Game of the night in the district to make the playoffs. Earlham will be to big and powerful for GC to stop.
Martensdale-St. Marys at Audubon: Thats a long road trip on a cold night to get beat pretty bad. This one could get ugly.
Woodward-Granger at Woodward Academy: The Mighty Hawks get back to winning against a team we don't really care for.
District 8East Mills at Griswold: This is a toss up game, but I'm still going with Griswold in this one. Griswold loses and they might not make the playoffs, which would be a huge disappointment.
Logan-Magnolia at A-H-S-T, Avoca : The tradition of LOMA goes against the power in the district. I look for AHST to win, but this could be a pretty good game, or is LOMA just not that good this year?
West Monona, Onawa at Riverside, Oakland : Oakland Riverside has had a pretty good year this year, I think they plan to keep it going.
Westwood, Sloan at Underwood : Its two teams with just pride to play for. I still think that Westwood will have enough.

Post is right on i believe.
Griswold suffered a tough loss to Riverside last week so I think they will come back fired up and ready to play against East Mills since they are in jeopardy of not even making the playoffs.
Logan has good weeks and bad weeks. They destroyed Underwood last weekend 63-0 but the weekend before that lost to westwood. AHST will come ready to play and win by 2-3 TD's.
Riverside rolls over West Monona no contest.
Ultimately I think D8 will go AHST, East Mills, Riverside, Griswold

Well, week 9 is here and it looks like our districts are set. For district 7, Guthrie Center will get the 4 seed with their win over Earlham. In District 8, you have Griswold going to LOMA for that 4th playoff spot. Wow, what a good 4th place team. Now you have week 9. This is always the scariest of the weeks for coaches who have their (top) seeds locked up. You want to win of course, but in class A, one person hurt can really derail your chances at making it to the dome. I really wish someone from Griswold will explain what has happened down there. When they came here in the playoffs last year, I thought they would be the team to beat with what they had returning. I was wrong, unless something bigger has happened. Here are the scores from last week and this weeks games. Can't wait to get Friday over with and start the real season.
District 7Audubon 40, Martensdale-St. Marys 0:
Guthrie Center 35, Earlham 18
Madrid 73, Bedford 18
Woodward-Granger 44, Woodward Academy 8

District 8A-H-S-T, Avoca 27, Logan-Magnolia 18
East Mills 32, Griswold 0
Riverside, Oakland 48, West Monona, Onawa 8
Westwood, Sloan 22, Underwood 20

District 7Audubon at Earlham: Audubon will win this by 3 plus TD's. Earlham has nothing to play for now, but Audubon will not want to get anyone hurt. They have the 1 seed locked up, so the game won't be such a blowout.
Bedford at Woodward-Granger: Im just glad they have to come all the way here to play on a cold night. The Mighty Hawks will roll into the playoffs. I expect the JV to get plenty of playing time from what I hear.
Guthrie Center at Madrid: GC can't stop Madrid, look for this to be over at half and Randy to pull starters to save them for Wednesday. His early departure last year did not sit well in Madrid. A meaningless game getting someone hurt could really cost them.
Woodward Academy at Martensdale-St. Marys: I like the Academy to get their first win Friday night.
District 8A-H-S-T, Avoca at Underwood: This one will be over early and expect a score that doesn't represent how good AHST really is. Their coaches will be smart as they know they have the chance to go to the DOME.
Griswold at Logan-Magnolia: The only real game in the two districts is this one. Winner gets Audubon. Its at LOMA, I'll go with them over a very disappointed Griswold team.
Riverside, Oakland at Westwood, Sloan: I've said this before, Riverside has surprised many people, and good for them. They will keep it rolling.
West Monona, Onawa at East Mills: East Mills continue to roll.

D8 finished: 1. AHST 2. East Mills 3. Westwood 4. Riverside.
The reason being is Westwood beat Riverside 22-7. Even though Logan beat Griswold 50-28, logan is still out because they lost to both westwood and riverside. crazy

Well, I hate to admit it, but I really do think that Madrid is the team to beat in the two districts. They are just playing at a different level right now.

Here are the games tomorrow night.

1. Guthrie Center at AHST: AHST is 9-0 for a reason. This one won't be close, as GC probably did all they could this year with the talent they had.
2. Riverside at Audubon: Audubon got a pretty good draw here. I like Audubon, but Riverside won't give them the game.
3. Westwood at Madrid: Westwood won't be able to stop Madrid, but will put up a few points. Still think Madrid will put 45 plus on them.
4. Woodward Granger at East Mills: Game of the night of the four games. I like the Mighty Hawks to come out with something to prove. Haven't played well the last month of the season and it started with Madrid. East Mills is big, but I think this is a low scoring affair. Will take 4 quarters of Hawk football. 19-15 Hawks.

PLAYOFF FOOTBALL is here! Good luck to the 8 teams representing these two districts.

Well, our reign has ended. I would imagine we will be 1A next year with our numbers, but you never know. Can't imagine us staying in A with class sizes in the upper 50's and 60's. Who knows, maybe the administration will work their magic and keep us in class A.
The games went pretty much how I thought, but I did think that Woodward Granger would put up a fight. It was a long night and a long season for the Mighty Hawks. Madrid's game was a little closer than I anticipated. Audubon is just good, and AHST is 10-0 for a reason. I wish the Madrid vs. AHST game wasn't all the way in Avoca, I would love to see that matchup.

East Mills at Audubon: To much speed and quickness. I like Audubon to pull away in the 2nd half.

Madrid at AHST: I'm torn on who I should pick, but I do think that AHST at home is the only reason I go with them. This is maybe the game of the night in the entire state.
