This weeks GR vs BGM game will be the first meaningful matchup in this district. Belle Plaine, GR, Hudson, are all undefeated heading into this week. While BGM dropped their first two games of the year to out of district opponents. Any thoughts on how this game/district will play out?. I've only seen GR play once, but was very impressed with their athleticism on both sides of the ball.

You could flip 2 and 3 very easily.

Although it doesn't really matter, I see it as highly unlikely GMG will take down North Tama. Big battle tonight between BGM and G-R. Match-up looks good with two highly athletic teams.

Grand View Cheaters? They may be the worse team in class A. If they are cheaters they must not be very good at it. Oh. Of course, they are a private school. I get it now. And BGM is not that good this year. As G-R showed.

After Friday night it looks like GR is the top team in this district. They will have to go on the road vs Belle Plaine and Hudson to win the district.

The battle will be for second between BP, Hudson or BGM. More than likely between BP and Hudson. Don't really know how good BP is yet. But they finish the season with BGM, GR and Hudson. Strange schedule but guess that's how it ended up.

The game with the only significance this week. BGM travels to Hudson. Hudson hasn't been scored on since the 14 total points that they gave up in the first two games of the year. This will also be Hudson's first test of the year.

I really don't think that BGM is bad this year, I think that G-R is still that good.

That very well could be the case. I'm going to assume its going to come down to Hudson and GR. I'm very impressed with the amount of athletes on GR has for a class A team. Where they may be lacking compared to past Rebel teams is on the lines. With that being said, both lines are improving each game.

Last few games will be interesting. GR looks to be the best in the district but BP and Hudson could throw them for a challenge. BGM still has a good chance of getting second. There is a big disparity in the lower tier teams that it is hard to tell how good anyone is until they play a good school.
GR has played a tough non-district schedule, the others (BP, Hudson) we just don't know.

Yeah, I think they are. They are essentially out of the playoff picture. Yes GR is good in a very mediocre district. Class A seems to be really down overall. The top 10-15 teams are probably pretty solid. But the quality of clas A has diminished IMHO. A lot of teams dropping to 8 man and some in class A just barely hanging on makes for some very uncompetitive games.

Playoff scenarios

GR games with Hudson, BP and CM remaining. Win all three and they are district champs. Lose one and they will receive second. Lose two and most likely out but could statistically get second depending on scoring.

Hudson games with GR GV and BP remaining. Like GR win all three and your in lose one and will probably take second. They too are statistically in it if they lose 2.

BP games with BGM GR and Hudson. They too can win the district by winning out but will have the toughest road to go. A one lose could garner them the second spot. And like the others are statistically alive in with two losses.

BGM games against CM BP and NT. A long shot but if they win out and have BP beat Hudson and have GR win out they are a long shot to get the second place nod but they do have a chance.

Most likely:

1st GR 2nd Hudson 3rd BP 4th BGM

The third place team has a outside chance to get a wild card. BP due to alphabet has the best chance.

How are the wild card selections going to be made?

7. District Alignment-

Classes 3A, 2A, 1A and A: 7 districts apiece with 8 teams in each district. District champion and District runner-up

would automatically qualify and 2 “wild card” teams would be qualify based on set criteria.

Criteria for Determining “wild card” Selection

a. Anyone who is considered a district champion (anyone in a 3 or 4 way tie)

b. District record

c. Head to head competition (District or non-district)

d. Tie Breaker Point Differential +/- 17

e. Alphabetical Draw each year- For 2016 we will start with the letter “K”

K through Z and then A through J.

-2016-2017 FOOTBALL PAGE 6-

Class 4A and 8 Player: 8 districts apiece. District champion and District runner-up would automatically qualify

to create the 16 qualifiers.

8. The 17-point tiebreaker system is the difference in score between Team A and Team B. EXAMPLE: (Team A--20,

Team B- 3. Team A gets plus 17 points and Team B gets minus 17 points.) Seventeen points is the maximum

number of positive or negative points that a team may receive. This replaces the 13-point tiebreaker previously used

Thanks for the info. Interesting to see Luke have 3 teams from District 5 in top ten. Belle Plaine's opponents have a combined 6-28 record. Not exactly a strong district. In fact bcmoore has their strength of schedule at 56. Out of 56 teams.

2 weeks left and things are shaping up. GR solidifies its stranglehold on district five. BGM breathes life into its playoff hopes.

Scenarios:

GR wins out they are champs. A loss to BP and they can still be champs as long as Hudson beat BP. The only way if they don't make the playoffs if they lose out and lose on points.

Hudson took a step back but still controls it destiny. The only way they can win the district is to win out and have GR lose out. If they win out they are guaranteed a playoff spot. A loss to BP would throw everything into a tie and will go to points.

BP a bad loss for them at BGM sets them back but not out. If they win out they are district champs. A loss to GR but a win at Hudson will put them in a tie for second and it will go to points. A loss to Hudson will probably keep them out of the playoffs.

BGM a huge win to keeps hopes alive. They need GR to win out and to have BP beat Hudson to force a three way tie.

A third place team from the district could get in if they have two losses. Right now that favors BGM

Most likely:

1st GR, 2nd Hudson 3rd BGM 4th BP

Great game plan by Belle Plaine last night vs GR. I think BP had 4 or 5 turnovers, 2 of those fumbles were returned for a TD. A closer game than the 20-6 final score indicated. Hopefully GR can get some rest next week. They're pretty banged up.

Final week scenarios:

GR are district champs no matter the outcome on Friday.

Hudson will be second with a win. A loss puts them in a three way tie for second. They will get in on points if they don't lose by more than 8 or have BGM win by less than 17.

BGM needs to win by 17 and have Hudson lose by more than 8.

BP has to beat Hudson by 15 and have BGM lose or win by less than 11.

Most likely
1st GR
2nd Hudson
3rd BGM
4th BP

BP is out as an at-large bid unless BGM loses. BGM is still in the running for an at- large but needs to have Montezuma get at least a second place in their district.
