There are threads for D6 and D7 so I figured let's start them for the rest

Here's how I see D5

Washington
Solon
Oskaloosa
Fairfield
Keokuk
Mount Pleasant
West Burlington
Fort Madison

I think Washington is the class of the district, returning quite a bit of talent off of a playoff team, Solon beat them in the playoffs but doesn't bring back quite as much but I think are the clear number 2 here. After that it's a big mess in my eyes. I put Osky 3rd because I think coming from a far tougher district and was rather young. Fairfield next due to their finish last year above the rest. Keokuk seems to return the most of the remaining.

Fairfield's placing will depend on whether Baughman goes out for football. The word Is he is not going to play. If he does then I like them for third place. He has a cannon for an arm.

We're two days in; does anyone know for certain if Baughman is playing? I agree with the sentiment here that it's Washington and Solon at the top, but this is a gamechanger for how the rest of the district will play out...

Glad to see that Baughman is playing. That makes Fairfield the best of the rest in this district behind Washington and Solon.

Just saw that Fort Madison has cancelled its JV and 9th grade games this year. Wow. That doesn't bode well for them. 15th biggest school in 3A. Participation #'s are a real problem in that district in everything but wrestling, it seems. Sounds like Keokuk will also probably be cancelling its JV games as well due to low #'s.

Osky's senior class had a lot of success up through their freshman year. Many of them got pressed to play varsity as soph's also. Osky struggled to put the ball in the end zone last year. I think they could get it together and have a winning season this year, especially in this district.

Washington should have a great year. Are a real threat to get to the dome. They have built a great program. Solon also has lots of talent back, but I think Washington will take this district.

Not sure what to make of West Burlington. Talk about some stud athletes at that school. I watch them run and jump at the blue oval in Des Moines and they have several kids that are amazing. But, that doesn't always translate over to the football field. I'd get the ball in Trousil's hands whenever possible though. They pounded FM and Keokuk last year but got hammered by the better teams on their schedule.

Overall, Washington and Solon will destroy the other teams in this district.

Solon should be tested prior to district. vs #1 2A Mt.vernon and #1 1A Regina to start.

Believe it or not I think Osky will battle for the title, they have really strong classes 9-12th grade, and have been stuck with Norwalk and Pella the last two years. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them hand it to Pella on opening night, these senior and junior classes are not scared of them and have beat them every year up until last year because Pella's senior class last year was one of the best in the state.

1. Osky
2. Washington
3. Solon

I would have to say you are little off here. Osky has a shot at fighting for 3rd place but that is it.

Washington will have a tough challenge Friday night Albua has some really good athletes.I have no idea if them kids that ran track for Albia play football but they where studs

Yes all those track athletes also play football. But Albia's offensive scheme's don't absolutely need to have great speed to have success. They would still be effective with average speed at the skill positions on offense. They are good at pounding the ball. Its their O-Line that makes them so good on offense. Their Defense is different that is when you will see their speed make a difference.

Washington and Solon will battle for district title with everyone else shooting for third. I would pick Fairfield to be the favorite for third.
