I think there is a favorite here then a lot of toss up.

Heelan
Spirit Lake
Storm Lake
SBL
Humboldt
Spencer
Algona
LeMars

Heelan returns most of their key pieces from last years team which was a bit of a disappointment but talent and tradition put them to the top. Spirit Lake lost a lot from last years 2A title team, but they have it rolling and I don't think the move up will impact them at all. Storm Lake is maybe a stretch here, but I know the kids they have coming back have had success at lower levels, maybe this is the year they take the next step. SBL lost most of their talent from last year but you can't look past the progress the program has made. Humboldt next because they have a 3rd year starting QB, Spencer looks the most complete of the teams remaining and best program, Algona was better last year but take a step back and honestly LeMars could jump a few teams with what they return but really struggled last year.

agree with your assessment in regards to spirit lake , they have a program that sort of resembles harlan of late..it just keeps rolling along, and will be very interesting to see how they match up with heelan..in the past they have had some teams that i believe could have done very well in 3a
