cr washington vs iowa city high

Washington by 40. City high has no outside speed and is susceptible to strong line play. They are relatively one dimensional in their attack.

So I read in the CR Gazette that the Vincent twins live on the NE side and their older brother went to Kennedy for 1 year. It must be true that Lombardi was the best recruiter in the MVC?

I just find it comical how on this board, time and time again, that when a kid goes to a public school outside their district it is called "open enrollment" but when it is a parochial school it is called "recruiting".

Xavier has nothing on Washington (Lombardi era) in terms of recruiting. The Vincent twins, Johnny Dobbs, Tavian Patrick, just to name a few are all Kennedy kids.

Javon Middleton "open enrolled" to Cedar Falls... I don't think recruitment is involved with a lot of these kids. They would rather play for solidified and better coaching.

Marlon Stewart "open enrolled" to North Scott for basketball. He wanted to play with someone else good like Cortez Seales and gets better coaching.

People say IC Regina recruits... I'm sorry but in football I would rather play at Regina than the IC public schools. Better coaching even though they are down a few classes. My next choice would be Solon. Then IC West and lastly IC High. Those are 4 good football coaching schools, which many communities are not able to benefit from.

In Cedar Rapids no one really wants to play for Jefferson or Prairie. Kids want Washington/Xavier for football and Kennedy/Linn Mar for basketball.

In Davenport you want North Scott, Assumption, Bettendorf for all sports. Davenport Central is the only public school that I would consider as a player. West is huge, but has limited funding. North is small with limited funding.

In Waterloo you want Waterloo West for track and occasionally basketball and baseball. Columbus for baseball. Cedar Falls for anything else. East is limited in funding and has continuously changing coaching staff. Now that Steve McGraw is coaching basketball again Waterloo East may come back on the radar for one sport.

Maxstabs13 please ensure that you give accurate information before making assumptions. To make it completely clear... my son Javon Middleton is not open enrolled in Cedar Falls. He resides there. Not sure where you got your information from but I am here to clear up any and all rumors regarding my son.

The same can be said for Johnny Dobbs and Tavian Patrick. Both of those kids have lived in the Wash district since 6 th/7th grade, so if they had went to Kennedy they would have had to open enrolled to do so. Please make sure you know your facts before you posting info.

Well, you're wrong, so please know your facts before you go posting info about who is wrong.

Tell you the truth I don't really care whether they moved or open-enrolled anyway. Simply said that Lombardi was a stronger recruiter than Xavier, and he was.

The point of the situation being parents want to send kids where they feel is the best situation for the child. The child wants to play for a team that gives them the best chance to improve.

Barkley Hill was a Denver resident by address, but played for Cedar Falls.

I believe Landon Zaputil from a few years back was the same way.

I was closer to Waterloo East than Waterloo West, but I lived on Conger which is a main road and to get more diversity Waterloo went every other house with which school you attend and I found that out to late and would have to wait a year to open enroll to East. My neighbors the next house down attended East. We just so happened to move the following year and I never went to East.

Remember when kids grew up watching and wanting to be a star on the home team? Wearing homemade helmets with the mascot on the side and dreaming of scoring touchdowns in front of the hometown fans?

.....me neither, God I'm old.

Now its Me >>>> Team and Division I Scholarships >>>> Championships. Not saying its right or wrong, just how things are today.

I'm envious of kids and families that have the choice. I grew up in a small town and if you wanted to open enroll, it was a 17 mile drive to the next high school and your motives and ancestry were called into question. Now, since we live in CR and we're near the Jeff / Kennedy boundary, we've decided to let the kids have some choice in their high school based on which one will suit them better, taking into account both academics and activities. If the best choice happens to be Wash, Linn-Mar or Prairie, then so be it.
