Game of the Week: North Fayette Valley 22, Decorah 7
It is a new year and a lot of new athletes have been asked to step up but it didn't stop North Fayette Valley dominate in the season opener against a strong program in Decorah. Their defense came ready to play and it showed as they held the Vikings to just a single touchdown.

Game: Central Lyon/ George-Little Rock 33, West Lyon, Inwood 14
Why: Regardless of who West Lyon graduated, Central Lyon, GLR looks like they have the firepower to compete for a district crown.
Game: Mason City 9, Clear Lake 7
Why: Even if they are a 4A foe, the loss is a major surprise for the Clear Lake program. Can they rebound quickly?
Game: New Hampton 14, Crestwood, Cresco 6
Why: Down to the wire but New Hampton hopes to continue to be among the elite in 2A this fall.
Game: West Burlington/Notre Dame 49, Fort Madison 14
Why: Moving up a class to put together a dominating season opening win against Fort Madison.
Game: Gladbrook-Reinbeck 13, Union, La Porte City 6
Why: Tough start for the Knights who must find the players needed to move the chains and put points on the scoreboard.
Game: Bondurant-Farrar 31, North Polk, Alleman 29
Why: Give them credit for not backing down.
