What are the approximate BEDS numbers that will divide Class 2A, Class 1A, and Class A.

Usually it is somewhere around 200 and somewhere around 150, the public school BEDS numbers that will be used for next year are out on the BOEE website, but that doesn't include any of the private schools.

Still can't out recruit your Bears.

When every single kid at a school is recruited its pretty tough to say they can't out recruit West Branch. Once yard signs for students pop up in front yards in Wilton, WB, Durant, TIpton, NC, Highland, or West Liberty, then we can chat. Until then its a moot point.

It's the yard sign tour. Private schools have to recruit every student to survive. Public schools can selectively target kids and get them to 'move' into a community for a year or heck a year and a half at times. Neither is against the letter of the rules. One is open and honest, the other? Well some people just deny that it happens.

Which kid from WB are you referring to? The QB from this year.

From my understanding, his family will be moving into their new WB home in a few weeks. The kids will all be at WB schools, paying taxes in WB.

Good to know. The apartment was probably crowded.

CID, put a dollar in the DB jar. And as fast as you guys can fill it up, we will have plenty of $$ to pay for WB's debts

Now that's the holiday spirit. Would be interesting to see what qualifies as DB in your mind. If pointing out people who give opinions as facts, distort the truth, make things up, fail to acknowledge that maybe just maybe that teams can actually work smarter than other teams, that coaching can make a difference, that fail to see both sides of a situation and that are flat out wrong than I am guilty as charged. I would expect you to uphold your side of the bargain and fill your jar as well. Fairly certain that you and the others of your ilk would fill your jar first pay off WB's obligation and then maybe he would come back. Unlike some when the team I support lost I was one of the first posters on after the game, oh and I didn't spend my time complaining about the officiating, same with Solon last year. It's about taking the good with the bad. Fortunately we don't get much practice on the bad.

I will see what I can do. Perhaps we can get some threads started that don't lend themselves to being hijacked, there isn't much discussion until threads get hijacked so people, quit lurking and start posting.

How bout them Columbus Junction Wildcats? let the discussion begin now?

I have the the smallest 3A at 318, the smallest 2A at 203, and the smallest 1A at 159. There are however some ties at these numbers.

I hear Highland, Riverside is poised to take over the 1A throne from Regina. Lot of good football among those small schools that have to play Regina every year. That's why there's so much discussion about them....

Are you going off the BEDS numbers from the State website? Or is there another site that has projected numbers?

Yes state BEDS numbers of course I am just guessing on parochial being close to the same and a few schools have academy numbers included in them so I just went off of last year but most of those were right in the middle of a class.

Are there any significant moves on the edges of those classes.

Joe D. Has done a great job everywhere he has gone, Murphy's is recommended on trips to Riverside as well.

Aplington Parkersburg is back in 1A.
Dike-New Hartford moving to 2A.
Maquoketa Valley is in 1A.
Alburnett is dropping to A.
Tipton is back in 1A.
Louisa-Muscatine will be in 1A.
Pekin will be in 1A.

if numbers hold steady/true Waterloo Columbus will be at 220 and AP at 203. The districts come out in a month, so I'd guess this will be the case.
AP will set the high end of enrollment for 1A

Since the state is taking the top 48 teams to 4A no matter enrollment that affected the schools on the edge. So it looks like AP will be 2A at 203

I have Tipton at 202 being at the top of 1A and Maq Valley at 159 at the bottom.
Pekin fell just below that line at 157

Things could change slightly because we do not have the private school numbers yet

Do we know if 1A will have 7 districts of 8 teams or 8 districts of 7 teams yet. I know there was talk about that.

7 districts with 8 teams
And I talked to one of the FBCA members who told me that in 2018 it will go back to the 8 district format and the champion/runner-up making the playoffs.

Underwood to 2A
South Winn to A
Unity Christian to 2A?
DNH to 2A
Okoboji to 1A

I have South Winn at 165 and in 1A, there are a bunch of schools are 203 do we know if they go A-Z or Z-A to decides who plays in which class if it came down to it. I also have West Marshall going back to 2A, Eddyville Blakesburg to 2A, and Pocahontas with the addition of L-M should be a 2A school. Unity Christian was close last time, if their enrollment is up then they could be 2A as well. Columbus is the other school on the border of 2A/1A which is crazy when you think they were a 3A school only a decade ago.

I believe the lower school in the alphabet goes up in class in the event of a tie at the cutoff point.

My numbers were using the old 2014-2015 BEDS. Interesting to see that the South Winn freshman class went from 29 kids last year to 50 this year.

Tie-breaker is reverse alpha this cycle (confirmed). Schools at the front of the alphabet will be the ones bumped up a class.

South Winn has a bunch of kids who go to a Catholic School through 8th grade then public school starting in high school, so they always add from 20-40 kids per grade starting in 9th grade.

Is there a catholic school there that they could continue with? When do private schools submit BEDS?

No, there are a few of the Catholic elementary/middle schools in Northeast Iowa this way, I know of them in New Hampton, Cresco, and Charles City too.

Did not know this. Thanks for the heads up.
