Burlington Greyhounds

They have to do something to shake it up to win. Lost to Fort Madison last week with the action packed score of 5-3 and then FM got buried by Assumption last night 70-0. FM gained 60 yards and had 4 first downs last night. 3A and 4A football in the far corner of SE Iowa leaves a bit to be desired at this point.

I went as a neutral observer last night to see the "new" stadium. FYI that stadium is one of the nicest in the state of Iowa. The stands are all new and they have a cool concourse on the home side and more seating for the visitors. That could be a game changer for Burlington, a lot of local kids would love to play in that stadium. Kudos to the Burlington Athletic Department and to the gentlemen who donated the money for that project.

I thought both teams played well, both teams moved the ball, just Davenport flipped the field by punting and pinning Burlington deep. Then Burlington shanked a punt and Davenport only had 20yds to go. I agree that both teams were one dimensional for the most part. Both need to work on their passing if they want to have a chance later down the road.

Rumor has it that the offensive coordinator was fired after last nite.
Wow. Who's next? Head coach? Then AD? Then Principal? Ridiculous. Its not like anyone is lining up to join in. Like they didn't know the OC wasn't any good last year or preseason? This has to be a joke and I fell for it?

That would definitely be a change from previous years. The OC was I believe 1-8 last year as the head coach at Ft Madison. I'm not sure what you would have witnessed to want him as the OC. The only thing I knew from last year was that they had a good rushing game at FM. They had no passing game though.

For all we know this is just a rumor. I doubt you can fire someone that easy. I may be wrong but seems like there would be some sort of protocol here besides just fire the guy.

I heard that it involved an argument on the team bus with another coach while HC was giving a interview.

Wasn't his fault the defence didn't keep out of end zone. Wonder if defensive coordinator us next if they don't stop the next team.

I am not saying he should be fired mid season or not, kind of weird for a Iowa High School team, but he hasn't been successful anywhere he has been.

Does anyone think BHS will now light up the scoreboard now? I doubt this is all his fault.

It probably isn't entirely his fault, there are other factors but I would like to think that if the offense and/or his play calling isn't up to par than why wait until the end of the season to make a change. If the head coach thinks he has someone on staff that can do a better job might as well make that change now before the start of district play. You have to do what's best for your program

Considering Shay's background as a college defensive coordinator is he not the high schools D-Coordinator? I honestly don't know haven't lived in Eastern Iowa for quite some time. I think considering Burlington's offense is rated 38/46 according to quikstats, if he feel's this move is best for his program than all the more power to him. If it isn't working no reason to keep on with it, that's all I'm saying.

I agree, it's a winnable ball game this week, hopefully they can pull it out. I would say that because the coach made the call as difficult as it would be, he is doing what he feels is best to improve his program. Good luck to the greyhounds this week vs North

I'm guessing there is much more to the decision then just play calling. You don't make a decision like that mid season just because of play calling. That's something you work through internally as a staff. Am guessing personality conflicts came into play or other issues that are much deeper then play calling. That's a tough call for a head coach to make.

I agree and I hope he holds every coach to same standard. I think they have a winnable game this week. Wish them the best.
Great pictures of the stadium upgrades in another post!

Yes. It would be nice if every coach on the staff would be held to the same standard....no matter the last name. There's been big issues in that department for 15 years. The politics in that place are almost impossible to overcome at this point in all sports.

The stadium looks incredible. Can't wait to check out a game.
