GDawg, if I were to explain the essence of God in this world, it would be this…. God is Love immutable, the spirit of love with sentience. People who love others and and tend towards selflessness walk with Gods spirit. God tries to work through the hearts of mankind to further love, but we fugging screw it all up with our selfishness and stupidity. God cares, while most of us are too caught up into our own shite.

It’s not the natural order for animals to suppress their own selfishness in pursuit of the welfare of others. But enabled by a “foreign” spirit of love, humans can try and be better about it

If God was all about listening to prayers and exerting his power based upon who racked up the loudest/most numerous prayers - then UT and UF wouldn’t have racked up 30 years of straight wins v UK based upon the groans and prayers streaming out of the Bluegrass for a generation

The idea of God is only 250,000 to 500,000 years old. It really became prominent as an idea about 6000 years ago. Thats about how long Man has had the ability to reason about such things. Our known Universe is about 14+ Billion years old, so while God could be very old no one knew about him until recently.

I was raised in a strong Christian faith. I am puzzled about a lot of things, but I like the idea of Christianity because it appeal to the good in man. I don’t analyze any thing Like Chesterton or Davies. It is not necessary. It’s all a matter of Faith. I really don’t like anybody to question my Faith. I don’t question theirs. Well, maybe a little of the dogma.

LOL, reminds me of my first exposure to a fundamentalist Christian college when in HS, on a recruiting trip the coach said “Dancing is strictly prohibited”, he said “Dancing is a vertical expression of a horizontal thought!” 🤔 😂

GDawg is good people and I won't begrudge him for his beliefs. I've had some amicable exchanges with him here on the subject. As with anyone else, all I can do is extend the offer to bring them into the flock, of which Jesus is the Shepard. Knowing what I know and believing as I do, it would be unkind of me not to do so. The eternal consequences are too important not to try. To his point, I won't shove it down his throat or scream like the looney preachers on TV or whatever. That serves neither party well. But if someone has a change of heart, they know I will welcome them to the fold and help them on their journey.

Nothing is to scare you or anyone else into a straight line. It just asks you to do the right thing. its summed up with treat your neighbor as you would want to be treated. Nothing wrong with that. That’s the way I was taught.
