What are everyone's thoughts on who are the best players in Class 1A this year and why.

I would have to go with Hilmer, Miller, & Sieber averaged 21, 18, & 15 respectively last year. That trio would have matched up with Grandview better in the Championship than GR did. My prediction is that North Linn will beat Grandview when they meet up this year at the Well.
Other than DeMeulenaere, who does Grandview have that could match up with these 3 great guards?

Other players that I think should be on this list are:
Mason Porter New London-very heady player who gets to the lane, hoop, & FT line.
Nicholas Ruden Remsen-not sure if he has enough help to get back to WF this year.
Brady Gavin Martensdale-the Blue Devils are a serious threat to make a trip to WF this year. Not too many teams have the size in 1A to stop Gavin.
Trent Williamson at Earlham will average like 30 ppg this year because they really don't have anybody else.
Caleb Grizzle at ACA. He just needs to play strong an he will be one of the best in 1A.
Drew Wilken at ACA needs to step up and make a play. If he could produce this year he could be a player to look out for.
Carley & Fagan at St Albert's CB are going to be very good this year also. St A should make an appearance at the Well this year.
Van Wyk at Lynville.
Matthew Hill at Colo will be a absolute stud for Colo this year. His quickness, size, and toughness will be hard to stop.
Jared Nichols will have a huge year for Colfax. Experienced and very athletic forward.

Solid post Hawk2015.
I was going to mention Jake Hilmer of North Linn and Nicholas Ruden of Remsen as well, but you beat me to it.

I agree with your comment that North Linn would've presented more match up problems for Grand View then GR did. It could've been a closer game, but who knows.

Really both North Linn and Grand View can make solid cases for being ranked #1 this year. If North Linn is #1, GV is prob. 1A, and vice versa. I would not be surprised to see a championship final between those two.

Being in central Iowa, I hear more about Grand View than other 1A schools. I believe they also have Mach Nyaw returning who backed up DeMeulenare at times and they still have Bryce Crabb at off guard. I heard they have another big man enrolled along with Montes returning down low. From the club circuit, I've heard they have held their own against the larger schools and have beefed up their schedule this year (games against Kuemper and Lynville Sully?).

We can potentially play NL 4 times this year and having watched the evolution of that team, I am not sure that anyone is going to be able to match up unless they, NL, has a really off night. The 3-headed monster mentioned above is going to be tough to neutralize.

I don't know that Huff is the best in 1A, but watching Don Boscoe tonight Huff, Kelley, McFadden, and Weber are a heck of core.

Can you expand a little on this?
Don Bosco was something like 22-2 last season and return their top 7 scorers. On paper, they seem to be the favorite to win the Iowa Star Conference this year and (barring upset) make it to state. But, this is why games are played.

They lost by 1 Point to Waterloo East in the jamboree. East controlled the middle part. Don Bosco controlled the first and last parts. Coming back from 8-10 down to take the lead before East hit the game winner with 5 seconds left in what could have been called a push off foul. They were running and gunning with East who had 10 guys rotating while Don Bosco had 8 guys total.

They had good guards and big bodies in the post. Very rounded out talent. 3-4 guys who can hit 3s consistently is always helpful.

Yes they have definitely beefed up their schedule. :)

As a follow up to my previous post, last year Grand View Christian ended the year with the 101st most difficult schedule in 1A (out of 148 teams), and it was probably only that high since they played 3 games at the end of the year at state against tough teams.

This year they are starting the year out with the 22nd most difficult schedule in 1A (although some of the teams' SOS aren't accurate due to not playing a game yet).
