Interesting that the computer isn't nearly as high on Xavier as the human polls are. Beating WSR this week would certainly help that cause. BC has WSR as a 4 point favorite. Feels like it would be an upset though if CRX loses this one.

Yeah, it certainly is odd to see them at #7 when most human polls have them in the #1-#3 spot. The computer rankings always seem to work themselves out.

calpreps project a matchup has harlan beating boone by 14 pts...also, harlan looses to solon, but beating xavier , cr.. also, calpreps has glenwood beating xavier by 2.

The computer rankings aren't all that accurate until the last weeks of the season, I think. Earlier, I think the human rankings are more valuable. Strength of schedule, which is so important to computer rankings, is not balanced at all among the teams. Some teams finish with strong opponents and some teams finish with an easier schedule, so big swings in the computer rankings can happen late.

Decided to do a Calpreps simulation of the #1 ranked teams in 2A, 3A and 4A. Upon completion of the simulation, I value Calpreps simulations less than I did before. So, not at all.

Nope.

I think the rankings are fairly accurate with the exception of Harlan, SB-L, and Glenwood. The west side is less competitive and that will take awhile to sort out with the computer. As far as the east side goes, it's pretty much in line with human polls and what most folks on here seem to think. The exception to that is Xavier, but they'll get the chance to increase their strength this week.

I still like it.

The problem with any computed ranking is lack of comparison and/or games in amongst the group.

The east side of the state just doesn't go against the west side during the regular season. Without any type of overlap, you are basically trying to compare two separate sets of data without any idea how close they are.

Some people really get caught up in that.....me, I think it's great someone is providing the data and like another way to compare.

Right. You can compare a handful of teams like DC-G/Pella and W-SR/Xavier, but after that it just turns into the standard “transitive property” analysis. Team A beat Team B but lost to Team C, so Team C is better than Team B.
