This has to be the most screwed up year for 8 man for your rankings BC? Your rankings are normally spot on but seemed to have trouble this year since there have been so many losses compared to recent years.

I just think this shows how much parity is finally at the top for the class. As we mostly have all said to start the year that it was a toss up for who would win the title let alone make the dome. Just shows that there are a lot of fairly equal teams at the top unlike the past few years.

Yes a lot of parity this year but still feel western side of the state was far and beyond deeper than the eastern side.

I have to agree the west is much deeper than the east. I think the gap is slowly closing though compared to what it was a few years ago when Don Bosco got ran out of the building by MMC in the finals or even the year before that when Fremont Mills laid one to Murray. The gap is considerably closer than it was then but their is still a definite gap between the two.

I would agree with this statement. The past few years have had teams that were just dominant; it might be a different time in 8-man football. Looking at this year's top 15:

1 West Bend-Mallard (10-2) - Wins over #5, 8, losses to #5, 6
2 Tabor Fremont-Mills (13- 0) - Wins over #5 and 14
3 Coon Rapids-Bayard ( 9- 2) - Win over #5, lost to #7, 8
4 Don Bosco (11- 1) - Wins over #11, 12, lost to #8
5 Marcus MMC (10- 3) - Wins over #6, 7, 1, losses to #3, #1, #2
6 Ruthven GTRA ( 8- 2) - Wins over #1, 15, lost to #5 twice
7 Glidden-Ralston (10- 1) - Win over #3, lost to #5
8 Newell-Fonda (10- 3) - Wins over #3, 4, 11, 2, Lost to #1, 14, 19
9 Elkader Central (11- 1) Wins over #12, 15, lost to #11
10 Janesville (10- 1) Win over #15, lost to #11
11 Victor HLV (11- 2) Wins over #10, 9, lost to #4, 8
12 Turkey Valley ( 9- 2) Lost to #9, 4
13 Exira-Elk Horn-Kimb ( 8- 3) Lost to #8, 14, 22
14 Dunlap Boyer Valley ( 7- 3) Wins over #8, 13, lost to #18, 2, 19
15 Northwood-Kensett (7-4) Lost to #6, 1, 10, 9

The western teams, especially NW Iowa, played brutal schedules that included a ton of top 10 teams.
WB-M - 4 top 8 games (2-2)
MMC - 6 top 7 games (3-3)
GTRA - 3 top 5, 4 top 15 games (1-2 against top 5, 2-2 overall)
NF - 4 top 4 games, 6 top 15 games (3-1 against top 4, 4-3 against top 20)
Against top 10 - (9-8)
Against top 15 - (11-7)

SW teams
FM - 1 top 10 game, 2 top 15 (2-0)
CR-B - 3 top 10 games (1-2)
Glidden - 2 top 5 games (1-1)
E-EHK - 1 top 10, 2 top 15 (0-2) - all after the Peppers injury
Boyer Valley - 2 top 10 games, three top 15 (2-1) - two losses to middle tier teams
Against top 10 - (4-5)
Against top 15 - (6-6)

The top tier Eastern Iowa teams didn't play nearly as tough a schedule
Bosco - 1 top 10 game (0-1), 3 top 15 (2-1)
Elkader - 0 top 10, 3 top 15 (2-1)
Janesville - 0 top 10, 2 top 15 (1-1)
HLV - 4 top 10 (2-2)
Turkey Valley - 2 top 10 (0-2)
Northwood - 4 top 10 (0-4)
Against top 10 - (2-9)
Against top 15 - (7-11)

Murray is western Iowa.

Armstrong-Ringstead
Sentral, Fenton
Lenox
Fremont-Mills
Farragut
Adair-Casey
Glidden-Ralston
Stanton
MMC

All of these schools (former schools) also fall into the western Iowa category.

I'd like to see what teams from the east other than Don Bosco have even played for the title the last 10-12 years. Just quick thinking I dont know if I can recall any that have really been close to playing for it really. Armstrong and Lenox took up a big chunk of that time meeting each other what like 3 years in a row for the title? Still think the gap is slowly closing from what it use to be though. Don Bosco was a worthy team this year and so was probably HLV and Central Elkader but I feel the east will take a lashing on how Newell made HLV look yesterday. I hadn't seen HLV play up until that point but I am sure many people can agree they looked far from their best in that game and that wasn't a good representation of how they have played all year long especially as of late.

How different would these rankings look if 2 of the arguably 3 best teams in the state didn't lose their best players late in the year? I think the computer would have exira #1 and DB #2 and, depending on how the state split it, they would've had a great chance to meet in the finals making the computer pretty spot on again.

Just some food for thought. "If you lose a player and you go from best to also ran. Were you really the best TEAM?" Not trying to be the bad guy. But I think that it is a legit question.

In 8-man injuries can impact teams much more than other teams. I am surprised this hasn't happened more often in past seasons. I think this year the balance was better, so injuries happened to be a lot more devastating.

In DB's case, the loss of Svoboda drops them a couple spots but they are still a great TEAM. They showed that still only losing to NF by 1 point. If you look at a professional level and take Manning off the Colts when they won titles of take him off the Broncos now, the team identity is gone and the whole gameplan changes, thus changing the team and its chemistry. So in fact, in defense of both DB and EHK, the losses of Peppers and Svoboda do hurt them that much, especially at the 8 man level.
