arizona schools

i live in arizona ...here is a list of top 100 public schools by size...thought it might of interest to a few here ...so west des monies valley would be not even near the top...i attend games during the year when i can...one year i saw a playoff game, 2 class 4 schools...5 being largest....there were actually 8 division one players in that game

Iowa schools aren't that big because, at around 2000 or so students, they divide the district & create a new school. Which is the right thing to do. No way that 3-4K kids in a high school is a good environment.

when i moved to phoenix and checked out the size of the schools, i was shocked. i never had imagained there would be that many large schools here..i just thought it was sort of interesting , thats all

Agree that it is insane that high schools are that big. It is a terrible environment for the average student, and hell for the below-average kid.

Unfortunately, I don't think academics are the priority. Look at the 60MM dollar HS stadiums in TX.

I'm sure with enrollments that big, they have just enough National Merit and Presidential scholars to make the school look just fine academically, while the lower 80% could get the proverbial pickle. Mostly, schools that big are bad for the kids socially. Can't imagine how many cliques there must be, and kids who are alienated. I've always thought that the Iowa 2A , 3A, and smaller 4A-size schools give average kids the best chance at succeeding, although there's nothing wrong with any of the schools in Iowa, except if they are so tiny that they can't offer a decent range of courses.
