Maybe ADM is just not meant to always good in sports? Can they just be a program that finds itself a good year every once in a while?
I'm not aware of any significant players that DCG has gotten from ADM but I do believe the Waukee kid playing line for Iowa was a transfer from ADM.
I've been familiar with ADM athletics for some time both in watching games and talking to family and friends from our western neighbors. Some of ADM's athletic problems are self inflicted and some are not.
ADM still remains a smaller 3A school. Also a factor that probably erodes their numbers is that they have a lot of academically gifted kids. Year in and out you will see them often listed in the Top 10 academic high schools in the state (all classes). That has got to conflict with sports particularly if they are small to begin with. I've heard they are finally starting to experience heavy growth so numbers might not be as much of an issue going forward.
The part they can control is that with the exception of soccer none of the ADM sports really work at developing a program. They seem to be too busy trying to figure out how to make the best of what they have instead of developing a program which develops kids. That is a problem which sometimes is a product of the parent led levels and issues already exist by the time the coaches get hold of the kids. Until they get that figured out their athletics as a whole will sway back and forth according to how athletic the individuals in the class are which was the case a few years back when an extremely athletic class took them to state in multiple sports for a couple of years.
Dew...it's a problem beyond coaches and not just limited to football.
