If Muscatine wins I would be very surprised. Wesikamp is by far the best player in the tournament(I say that having seen every other team except Johnston, WDMV, and SC East in person), but Foulk is the only other decently efficient offensive threat. The zone that Muscatine runs can stifle teams that don't move the ball well or shoot well, but ICW has a good mix and variety of pieces. Weiskamp can't cover Sims and McCaffery, while making sure Eldridge isn't drilling 3's. I would expect a big game from Joe, but I say ICW by 15. PV stifled Muscatine and they have much less talent than ICW.
North Scott is a young team and people don't realize that because Corvon is the main guy. Kilberg, Tavi, and Anderson are a solid young nucleus for that program. Anderson has the most upside in my opinion and that is why North Scott plucked him from the Davenport schools. This team has been very inconsistent at times. The CRP loss and the big loss to PV are signs of the inconsistency. However, when they are locked in defensively and hitting shots offensively they are tough to beat. In a conference that was very guard heavy and lacked good post players outside of Weiskamp. I think Brinkmeier will cause some problems for NS. They like to use Anderson on bigger guys. The key will be forcing TO's and making Brinkmeyer rush his shots inside. Valley is playing with a 10 game winning streak and a completely different team the second half of the season. I think North Scott's skilled guards and the open larger court will help them win but by a slim margin.
I think CF and SCE will be a very solid game. CF doesn't have a ton of post depth, but they dealt with a Hempstead team that was very aggressive toward the rim and around the rim. I think SCE is a spot on version of Hempstead. I think Rees is going to game, but the difference for SCE will have to come from Vanderloo. He will have to match Green if SCE will win. Duax did his best to match Green, but it wasn't quite enough. I think we may see a similar result. I wouldn't be surprised if SCE won by getting CF in foul trouble inside though.
I have Johnston winning over Waukee. I saw Waukee in Rock Island over the summer and Nate Johnson was probably the 3rd best player or 2nd best player at that tournament of 32 teams. I have been watching Johnston all season though. I thought they were the 3rd or 4th best CIML team coming in. Then when I began to look at results they have been my sleeper team since mid season. I think they have a very good shot at winning the title. Johnston in a tough grinder of a game.
