How does this district look for this coming Fall?? Standings?? Returners??

Cedar Falls loses a lot but always seem to re-load...

Prairie graduated a lot of talent as well, and best WR in State to Solon...

What do the Dubuque schools have coming back? Heard both of the incoming junior classes are deep and talented...

How do Jeff and West look?

CF will definitely have to fill a lot of holes. The only returning starter on offense is QB Cael Loecher. And they only have two or three returning starters on defense (Trey Weimer, Collin Bohnenkamp, Alex Paxson). Meanwhile, incoming junior Landon Wolf will try to fill his brother Logan’s shoes. Beyond that, we won’t know much more until August.

Cedar Falls has a strong 2020 class ready to fill in. Inexperienced at the varsity level, for sure. They have been together all three years leading up to this because of combining the middle school teams as freshmen. That is not typical. Replacing the 2019 class will be very difficult. The new guys were able to work against those guys for a year, and that will help.

Defensively, Bohnenkamp and Weimer are strong on the line. They could be moved around depending on the upcoming juniors. Paxson is very good and can hit. Barnett got some playing time at OLB when Southworth was out last year. Going to be interesting to see how they fill in ILB with Campbell gone.

On offense, Loecher will have to find receivers to replace Wolf, Anhalt, and Frericks. Sernett, Albaugh at WR, and Remmert at TE will provide a lot of help. Grosse and Ostrich at RB looks good too.

It will come down to the lines. They usually get that together nicely, no matter the kids.

CF should be very good still
Prairie will be a pain in the rear with that offense.
Hempstead is the one to challenge CF or Prairie
Senior, not sure
Waterloo West, hard to tell
CR Jeff has definitely struggled the past couple of years, but that could obviously be different

The Dubuque Schools will be a mixed bag. Hempstead has size, and the Sophomore class I believe went undefeated. Their lines will be massive and that should bode well for their defense. Cayden Lovett(2021) is the real deal at DT. The sophomore class will bring some talent to the Varsity, but I don't think their Wing T offense is a good match for the players. There have been grumblings of upset parents and them possibly changing up the offense.
Senior has a talented group of sophomores moving up to varsity. I believe they went 6-3 with their 4 best players playing for varsity as sophomores. The skill positions will have a complete overhaul, except for QB. Casey has the arm talent, just needs protection. Only one returning receiver from last year, but they have a talented RB who should make a name for himself in Cain McWilliams. Defense should be stout. Returning the 3rd leading tackler in 4A at MLB in Carter Konrardy and McWilliams is a really good cover corner. Will totally come down to the line play and the younger players maturing quickly. Either Dubuque team could go 3-6 or 7-2. Talent is definitely there.

Spoke with Hempstead's coach, Said they are going to be huge up front. All over 250. Said they are changing the offense, 2021 QB will be taking over. Thinks he's a good one. Might be some growing pains, but I would anticipate them having a say in District 3. Last years record was worse than they played. Gave Bettendorf all they could handle.

Coach Hoskins at Hempstead is out, resigned for personal/health reasons. AD, who was a former assistant at Hempstead and maybe head coach at West Dubuque is taking over. He was not on staff previously, making return to coaching to try and keep the season from being a waste. Tough first game traveling to Bettendorf.
Senior seems to be putting things together as well. The playmakers have been making plays. Tommy Casey is towards the top in passing, Kendrick Watkins-Hogue in receiving, Cain McWilliams in rushing, Logan Flanagan in interceptions, and Carter Konrardy just set the single game solo tackle record. LT Jim Bonifas(2021) was invited to the Hawkeye game last Saturday and is invited to the CyHawk game this weekend. With a very down Wash team coming in this week 2-1 is a strong possibility and then a visit to Iowa City West who could be 0-3, and yet still a very good team. Senior may have a say in District 3.
