Quikstats shows Bishop Heelan having 5 players who have participated in 41 games. Two of the five were used exclusively as courtesy runners in one game, leaving 3 in violation of the rule.
There is nothing in the sports manual that I could find that allowed for exceptions to the rule. Also, there doesn't appear to be any exceptional game(s) on their schedule (e.g., playing in an out of state tourney) that Boone maybe could have considered a special circumstance. It appears they are in violation.
In that case, the only penatly would apply would be their last victory against Lewis Central. The use of ineligible players (the 41st gamers) should result in a forfeit. What is not clear is what sanctions should be levied against a team for playing more than 40 games.
The tournament series is excluded from the count, so everyone would be eligible in sub-state play this week.
The only outstanding question - would the additional loss effected their seed? At 32-9, probably not. Don't know about LC though. Would another victory made a difference for them?
From the Spring Sports Manual:
Game limitation: Member schools are permitted a 40 game limitation, exclusive of the tournament series. The
limitation rule applies to individual teams representing the school and an individual player participating on
those teams. No individual player may play in more than 40 games during the season, exclusive of the
tournament series. Exceptions: Courtesy runners only & pitching exception (see note below).
