Couple of thoughts about Creston. First, didn't know their QB was a German foreign exchange student, that is very cool. He threw some nice deep balls, but I wander if he has seen much American football before coming to the states.

Second, Creston's line is the epitome of corn-fed Iowa boys. My goodness, I have never seen so much size on one high school team. They are not only big but tall. They had several guys at the 290+ range and many were 6'4" or taller. Never seen anything like it. When they would line up in the "tank" formation which was a wildcat for the RB with about 2500 lbs of players in front of him just running forward, it was a sight to see. He would just tuck in the middle of them and the whole pile would go forward for 7-10 yard gains even when it looked like nothing was there. They don't pull lineman at all, just go north-south, which certainly works for them. Have to agree with oonfoofoo's thoughts earlier that the way to deal with them is crash from the edges. Pella's D had success with that. Schiltz gained over 300 yards, but over 160 of them were in the 4th quarter on Pella's subs. He had in the 90's at halftime and was contained pretty nicely.

Lastly, they have almost all their players back next year. They will gain lots of yards and score lots of points, but their defense is what is going to make or break them. They were not stout on D at times this year, including last night. They have difficulty dealing with speed. But, in saying that, they will be very, very good. Schiltz may run for 3000 yards next year and may carry the ball 500 times, and I'm not exaggerating.

I agree Fmclonefan, With what they have coming back I imagine they have to be a district favorite.

Yeah the Pella coaches called me in to consult on that. I told him to put his fastest guys at OLB and stuff the tackle and twist.....Just kidding.

Look, it is what it is. This has been the MO all year. Stats...period. They embarrassed an Atlantic team for an entire half by giving the ball to the guy for all but 2 plays or so in the first half. They did it with Glenwood when Glenwood put their JV in after they were blowing them out. Look at quikstats you can see the number of carries other kids get..

I will disagree with one point here...they do pull their off guard and when they do it's all slow developing....speed kills and you can get in the hip pocket of that guy and shove his A$$ to the ground and crash the outsides with a twist....or you can play 2i technique with your biggest guy....not much change of direction in their backs and pretty much straight ahead....you watch...defenses in the district will make changes.

anyway, I was at the game and I have some observations...

Pella is good...very good...well coached...and the community is a classy group of people. Got to talk to a few parents about baseball and I will say....pure class of people....none of the #FTD crap outta those folks - you will have to look that one up....pure class on the other side? mmmm maybe not

On Clayberg, stats weren't phenomenal last night but is he the best player in the state? Maybe..maybe not...I ain't saying....but here's what I saw last night - and this all an observation not knowing anything personally about the kid or the team...he is a leader and anyone should be proud to have that kid. He makes his team better and I could tell just how he carried himself. Any coach would love to have him. He is without a doubt a D1 guy. Is he a D1 from day 1? Maybe not..Redshirt and he will be a starter by his junior year - and I mean at the big ten, big twelve level. Going to sound cliche here but he reminds of Sash - some kids are just players and they have instincts - he is a player. I saw outstanding instincts and leadership outta that kid. Very impressed and from the teams I saw play in the few districts he is without a doubt the best player that I have seen - AND I AM NOT BASING THIS PURELY ON HIS ATHLETIC ABILITY...There is more than that.

Oonfoofoo what does that mean?

It means that don't buy into all the stats you read on quikstats or in the news....Stats show the same on paper no matter how you look at them....now jump into the substance

There should be a new stat - instead of YAC (yards after contact) we should add YATVWPFTGATLTSI - yards after the varsity was pulled from the game and they left their starters in.

Like I said about Clayberg... stat night last night...not the best(but very good)...but when you want to compare players...hands down Clayberg was the best player on that field..again not basing it on stats.
