3A First Round State Talk: #4 MOC-Floyd Valley vs. #5 Dubuque Wahlert

I don't think Pemsl is that soft, and I don't think you "ugly" the game by playing hard nose physical defense. IMO this is what Pemsl, and most others that play high level AAU ball struggle with, is that with all the "All-stars" on the team the defense can be almost non-existent. Probably does not trend completely to the level of the NBA, but the general direction is the same. So these guys, like the ICWest guys become frustrated when you slow them down and make them grind it out. Not sure how that is "dirty". And if Pemsl has watched a Big10 game he better get used to it if he thinks about stepping in the lane. I agree they are probably the most beatable team of the three, but you had still better have some quality athletes on your bench to survive, Pemsl's supporting cast are good players.

I have no problem with hard nose physical defense. Sometimes you have to play physical, that is part of the game. But there is a big difference between playing physical basketball and "grab, hug, hold, pinch, poke and push every Wahlert player all game long". If you are going out there to intentionally pinch and poke your opponent I would say that is dirty basketball.

Sarcostico, are you sarcastically challenged?

Watching Pemsl the last few years at the state tournament...he is soft! Get someone in his grill and force him to move a lot get Pemsl into foul trouble and he gets frustrated easily. If Wahlert is going to beat you, you want it to be by the other guys. Their experience is unmatched, but would love to see them go down!
The kid finishes like no other in high school ball. Sometimes he seems a little bored, but not soft , no way. Foul trouble will come from the pathetic officiating down there. Last year the 3a officials must have been the bottom of the barrel, they nearly ruined the whole tournament. Including the final.
Pemsi and SL have a big advantage with the refs , thems Boonie boyz love um some Hawk recruits !!!

He does not like to be down low if people are banging on him. Last year against LeMars he would sit outside the entire time and was not aggressive.
Last year , him and the Lemars big guy couldn't move with out a hack 3a ref calling a foul. The Boone favorites were horrible in 3a last year, let's hope they switch it around this year and those refs are home doing 5th grader tourneys for their extra money and fitness, where they belong too.

Haha, now that is what you call irony. Although technically I think your original post would be called hyperbole not sarcasm. Either way just another examples of the flaws of message board communication.

I was going through the MOC stats and Wow they are a great three-point shooting team-- around 40% for the season! I see against Carroll that three MOC players were 10-10 from the three and they were something like 15- 21 as a team. Most of Wahlert's losses were to teams that blistered the nets from the three. Of course, three of them are in the 4A tournament- Cedar Falls, IC West and Senior (although Wahlert won the rematch by 27). Another three point team that beat them was Linn-Mar in a 90- 87 loss in Marion. Wahlert can also be a good three point team, but how many they shoot depends on their game plan. Should be a great game. I've never seen Levi Jansen play. Is there any film on him? I couldn't find any.
