So would the top team in 3A be a top 10 team in 4A?

Let's use last year as an example. Going to post the same question on the 4A board.

From what ive seen pella would probly be along the lines of johnston urbandale ect. They woulndt stand a chance against the ankenys vally dowlings tho

Pella would have been behind Dowling and Valley last year toss up after that with teams like Kennedy, Bettendorf, and Johnston

Maybe with the east side teams however Johnston and other central/westside teams were better then Kennedy and Bett :)

IMO a big difference between the two classes is depth. Numbers help create depth. Not always the case but depth and platoon play really helps.

Xavier yes, Assumption would still be a winning team, not in contention for state title this year, but they are also having a down year.

How can you say that many west side teams were better than Kennedy and Bett, the two WDSM teams were and are but after that it is debatable, metro teams claim dominance over the state, but it is really just Dowling and Valley. Other than that it really isn't proven especially since Ankeny split.

It doesn't help that City laid an egg against Ames this week. That being said I don't think that there is a whole lot for the westside to crow about other than Dowling and Valley, they are a cut above the rest at this time.

Urban 3A programs like Xavier, Assumption, and Heelan would compete very well in 4A most years. In fact, they all did, as they had 3A enrollment long before they actually left 4A and joined 3A. Xavier was in the 4A title game very recently (2 yrs ago?), and I have no trouble believing that Heelan's '08, '09, and '13 teams would have at least been in contention for the 4A title.

Valley barley beat Johnston last year to go to the Dome so it's not just Dowling and Valley. We all know what Valley did to Bett earlier, whoever eventually makes it from the east will get pounded AGAIN. The top 2 teams from the east are somewhere between 8-10 last year and most likely again this year. Just allow some DSM schools to go east come playoff time and all is good.

Now back on topic, I believe the top team in 3A year in and year out would fall somewhere between 6-10 in 4A of course there is the one year exception.
