How
did District 1 do in the playoffs?

Sheldon

Defeated West Lyon in the first round (16-0)

Defeated Fort Dodge St. Edmond in the quarterfinals (14-7)

Defeated PCM-Monroe in the semifinals (41-20)

Lost Sigourney-Keota in the championship game (27-24)

Thoughts on District 1 for 2006:

296257.jpg
Last year, Sheldon surprised many by finishing district play undefeated and
then nearly took down the consensus favorite in the title game. Although
they ended up losing to Sigourney-Keota, they gave them a lot more than expected. The problem now is that the Orabs lose ten All District players
and will have a ton of holes to fill. The good thing is that they have
started to build a tradition after the title game appearance but they will have
to prove they can reload rather than rebuild if they want to continue that
tradition. Running back Jacob Crowl was second on the team in rushing
after going over the 1,000 yard mark last fall. He will get a chance to
see more carries in the offense and needs to be ready for the added work load.
At linebacker, Josh Ihnen started last year as a sophomore and should better
this year. He will need to step up and be a leader on the defensive side
of things. Rock Valley/Boyden Hull ended up one game short of the
postseason last year and did lose some seniors. But they actually have All
District performers back in the fold this year, led by Eric Van Ginkel and
Travis Vande Stouwe. And as usual, both Rock Valley and Boyden Hull are
known for producing talented athletes and that will give them a huge boast when
it comes time for football. Van Ginkel will get a lot of touches at
running back and receiver on the offensive side of things and play almost every
down this year. Vande Stouwe is a bit undersized on the line but that
makes him tough to block as a defender. For the amount of talent that Central Lyon had
last year, many expected them to make the postseason. And although they
fell short of the goal last year, they might be battling among the top of the
district standings this fall. Three All District performers will be back
and even better this time around. Athlete Reid Geerdes will need to have
an even bigger season on the field if this team can make a run at the playoffs. Cherokee has one of the most unique
styles of football in the State but they must develop their players to fit their
style of play. Two years ago, they did that and if not for a injury, they
could have made the postseason. Despite using two very young quarterbacks
this year, the Braves put up big numbers. Mark Johnson and Tyler Jones
combined for over 2,000 yards, thirteen touchdowns, and completed over 58% of
their passes. The problem is that they combined for seventeen
interceptions and they both need to become more consistent. As far as the
wideouts go, the team returns their top four including Christopher Campbell.
As a sophomore, Campbell caught 61 passes for 735 yards. Outside of their
loss to Battle Creek-Ida Grove, all five of their losses were two touchdowns or
less. Sioux Center has one of the best running
backs in the district returning in Jon Rosenboom. This junior was an All
District pick last fall and will be a load to stop this time around.
But who will step up around him? That question will determine how well the
Warriors do this fall. Sibley-Ocheyden, Hull Western Christian, and Unity Christian won a combined one
game last year. Unless a miracle happens at any of the schools, it may be
a tough fall for this trio of teams. Unity Christian and Hull Western
Christian are known for basketball and that makes it tough for the football
program to really get going.

Preseason District MVP: Jacob Crowl

If Sheldon can win the district title, Crowl will have to rush for around 1,500
yards and step up on both sides of the ball.

Sleeper Team: Cherokee

With the amount of players coming back, Cherokee could have what it takes to win
this district.

Sleeper Player: Jon Rosenboom

People may think Sioux Center will struggle but don't be shocked to see Rosenboom
have a huge year.

District Champion: Sheldon

Yes, they will be young and inexperienced. But I have a feeling that
they will be a lot better than people think.

How
did District 2 do in the playoffs?

Clarion-Goldfield

Lost to Solon in the first round (38-19)
Emmetsburg

Lost to Fort Dodge St. Edmond in the first round (28-16)

Thoughts on District 2 for 2006:

328010.gif
With Emmetsburg in any district, it is always pretty easy to count the
E-Hawks among the favorites. They bring back a boat load of talent as
usual and won't have to face off against Fort Dodge St. Edmond in any district
games. This Emmetsburg team has a chance to make some noise not only in
this district, but also the State. Kyle Malm will get a chance to showcase
his skills at running back now that Justin Kerber is graduated. As far as
athletes go, Tony Brugman and Dalston Jones will make a huge will make an impact
on both sides of the ball. Both Brugman and Malm earned All State honors
last fall. One of the biggest surprises of the
2005 football season was Clarion-Goldfield. The Cowboys came into the year
with little hype but ended up playing impressive football all season and making
it to the playoffs. Although they fell at the hands of Solon in the
postseason, Clarion-Goldfield was tough. The question that will be
answered this fall is will last year be a one hit wonder or will the Cowboys
bring their A game for yet another year. Estherville Lincoln Central finished 5-2 overall in a
very tough Class 3A district. They lost their two non-district games but
that does not take anything away from what the Midgets accomplished. And
with the move down to 2A, are they ready to make another postseason push?
Running back Brett Tomkins and quarterback Brad Deling both are back and will
get a chance to make a run at the postseason. Manson Northwest Webster gave Fort Dodge St. Edmond one of their toughest games
of the year but played inconsistent during most other weeks. If they hope
to improve on their 4-5 record, they must be able to give the same effort week
in and week out. But with four All District players gone, there are going
to be a lot of holes to fill this fall. Wall Lake View Auburn started the
season 0-3 but finished strong and won five of their last six games. With
that improved play late in the year, it should help them gain some momentum
heading into the new year. The problem is that they will be making the
jump up from Class A and that transition will not be easy. Running back
Brandon Aschinger was the second option last year but with a senior teammate at
the same spot now graduated, look for his standout to get more opportunities to
run the ball. Okoboji, Garner-Hayfield, and Eagle Grove all struggled
in their district play throughout the entire season. The only win for
Okoboji all season was against Eagle Grove. Running back Charlie Vaubel
returns and will be a focal point of the offense. For Garner-Hayfield, two time All Stater
Chris Snyder will be missed along the lines. But with a number of
offensive skill players returning, don't be surprised to see the Cardinals
surprise some people. Eagle
Grove does return a solid quarterback in Nick Willwerth but he must reduce his
interceptions if his team can improve this year. This senior threw for
over 1,200 yards and rushed for over 500 yards but had little help around him.
With his top top receivers back for another year, they may be a darkhorse in
this district.

Preseason District MVP: Kyle Malm

Although Tony Brugman received some serious consideration, Malm is a load to
stop on both sides of the ball.

Sleeper Team: Eagle Grove/Garner-Hayfield

Both squads bring back a lot of their offensive firepower. The question is
which team can stop someone?

Sleeper Player: Nick Willwerth

How many players lead their team in rushing and passing as a junior?

District Champion: Emmetsburg

The E-Hawks are always a tough team to pick against because of the talent
they have coming back as well as their tradition.

How
did District 3 do in the playoffs?

Eldora-New Providence

Lost to Dike-New Hartford in the first round (30-6)

Thoughts on District 3 for 2006:

When looking at the teams in this district, it is obvious that the title is
up for grabs here. Out of the eight teams, three are moving up from 1A
while two are moving down from 3A. That alone will make things very
interesting. The team returning with the best record is Eldora-New
Providence, who is making the jump from 1A. Many expected them to be among
the best teams in that class but even with the move up, the Tigers may be ready
to make another run at State. They bring back seven All District
performers but must adjust against some stuff 2A competition. Running back
Tanner Haskin will get an opportunity to be a bigger part of the offense.
And with the quarterback spot a question mark, Haskin will need to really
improve to help the transition to an inexperienced player. Defensively and
along the lines is where this team will be strong. They are dropping down
a class but the talent is there. Roland Story
nearly made the playoffs this past year in Class 2A but fell short in the end.
The Norsemen are traditionally a very strong football program and I expect
nothing less from them this time around. They have the tradition and
athletes to make a run for the district title. The team usually focuses on
running ball offensively will need to find a new running back with Sam Hammes
having graduated. Despite making the Class 2A
State title game two years, Gilbert fell short of the playoffs this past fall.
That senior class will be missed and a number of talented athletes will be
graduated by next season. They must find a way to replace not only pieces
along the line but also some very talented skill athletes. The Tigers do
bring back eleven starters on both of the ball and that will help from having to
rebuild this fall. Ben Durbin, Ryan Long, and Grant Ridpath will all see a
huge role on the offensive side of things. Durbin is a very skilled player
on both sides of the ball. Hampton-Dumont
ended last year with a 4-5 record but this was at the Class 3A level.
Lineman Jared Mollenbeck was a unanimous All District selection and should be
improved with a year of workouts. It seemed that against good teams, the
Bulldogs had trouble putting points on the board. If they want to make an
impact at the Class 2A level, they must be able to score against anyone.
East Marshall will be making the jump up from Class 1A football and that will be
an adjustment. The question is how quickly will they be able to adapt to
the new competition? After opening the 2005 season with four straight
wins, the Mustangs lost four of their last five games. Walker Seim at
quarterback will help the move up a class but the team must find a new go-to
running back and receiver. Ogden was unable to strong together any win
streaks last year and that inconsistency hurt them as the year wore on.
They did play some teams like PCM-Monroe very tough but that moral victory
didn't help their record. Hudson and Iowa Falls went defeated last year
and combined for an 0-18 record. That will not be easy to turn around.
For Iowa Falls, it will be easier for them because they are making the move down
from Class 3A. And with athlete Turrell Foster coming back, expect some
nice things out of this junior. Hudson on the other hand will have to try
and break that losing streak after moving up from Class 1A.

Preseason District MVP: Tanner Haskins

Haskins will have to play huge on both sides of the ball if they want to win a
district title.

Sleeper Team: Gilbert

With the senior class that graduated, many may overlook them but that won't be
the case.

Sleeper Player: Jared Mollenbeck

All District lineman who deserves more recognition than he gets.

District Champion: Eldora-New Providence

Although making the move up a class will not be easy, the Tigers have enough
talent to fight for the district title.

North Fayette

Defeated Center Point-Urbana in the first round (49-26)

Defeated Solon in the quarterfinals (26-21)

Lost to Sigourney-Keota in the semifinals (34-20)

Thoughts on District 4 for 2006:

256483.gif
The first team you will notice in this district is North Fayette. They
have not lost a game in two regular seasons and this may finally be their year.
Running back Mike Moser and a number of his experience teammates are now
seniors. And like Sigourney-Keota last year, this team has waited its turn
and may finally hoist the trophy in November. If they can stay focused,
watch out because this team is talented, athletic, and deep. Running back
Mike Moser is finally a senior (It seems like he has been playing forever).
He will be a force on both sides of the ball and will look to improve on his
numbers (1,300 +, 20 touchdowns) from last year. Quarterback Kirby Hovden
put up some of the best numbers in the State with 21 touchdown passes and only
two interceptions. He really did not throw that many passes but when he
does, watch out. The other
playoff team, Center Point-Urbana, continues to defy odds. The Stormin'
Pointers are the type of team that instead of rebuilding, they reload year after
year. That has helped them into the postseason so many times and that
tradition is tough to bet against. So with the 2006 season around the
corner, many people will be sleeping on this team for yet another year.
But don't be surprised when the playoffs start that they find a way in. MFL MacMac may have the most sought
after recruit in the entire district with lineman Brian Rodas. This junior
is a load to stop on both sides of the ball and earned All State honors last
fall. But as for the rest of the team, the Bulldogs must play a lot more
consistent. Rodas can do a lot of things on offense and defense but who
will step up around him? That question will determine if they can improve
on their record from last fall. Union-LaPorte City continues to finish around the .500 mark but has
yet to really break through and get into the postseason. And even though
they graduated a lot of seniors in 2005, this team still was very competitive.
But with their starting quarterback as well as top running back and receiver now
graduated, the returning players must step up to fill those holes. Waterloo Columbus won the State title in 2004 while being led by a stacked
senior class. Now that some of the Sailors have gained some much needed
experience, it could help the team this fall. Lineman Travis Abben is
probably the top returner for the Sailors. Osage has had some talented
athletes go through their school but they must prove they can win consistently.
It seems in the really big games, they are unable to take over. And that
problem showed last fall when the Green Devils were unable to accomplish as much
as they had hoped on the football field. South Winneshiek and Sumner-Fredricksburg will be looking to improve on their 2-7
finishes from last fall. They had spurts where they look tough but they
must do it more often to increase their win total.

Quotes:

"It will help not playing Class 3A opponents for our non-district games. I think
if we can start our schedule winning both non-district games heading into
districts, that will make a big difference."

-Brian Rodas, MFL-Mar/Mac lineman, on starting the season strong.

Preseason District MVP: Mike Moser

This do-everything back will make the opposition count down the days until he
graduates.

Sleeper Team: MFL MarMac

Will the teammates of Brian Rodas be able to step up?

Sleeper Player: Kirby Hovden

The numbers he put up last year are easily among the best in-state.

District Champion: North Fayette

did District 5 do in the playoffs?

Solon

Defeated Clarion-Goldfield in the first round (38-19)

Lost to North Fayette in the quarterfinals (26-21)
Tipton

Lost to West Branch in the first round (28-0)

Thoughts on District 5 for 2006:

315632.gif
With the tradition and success of Solon, the Spartans are going to be a
tough team to beat in this district. They did graduate some very talented
players but have a solid core of athletes coming back that will want nothing
else than a playoff run. During last year's final game against North
Fayette, Solon dug their own grave with turnover after turnover. If not
for their sudden problems controlling the ball, that could have been a much
different contest. The Spartans lost a talented quarterback and running
back to graduation but with the tradition they have, don't be surprised for
someone to step in right away and be comfortable. Tight end Matt Lesan
will probably see the ball more in the air. He is a talented athlete who
will probably play basketball in college. And with lineman August
Hadenfeldt back, the team has one of the better players in Iowa. He will
have to have a monster senior year if the team wants to accomplish their goals.
Monticello was in the same district last year as the Spartans and was
disappointed to miss out on the playoffs despite finishing 7-2. The
problem was that they lost to the two playoff teams in their district.
They were a senior dominated team but bring back a talented running back in Drew
Ball. Now that Ball is a senior, he get a bigger role in the offense and
will have to really step up his game. The Panthers however have a lot of
holes to fill. Dyersville-Beckman returns a lot of players but they must
adjust to a new coach. With their former coach heading to Iowa City West
and the MVC, the Trailblazers will have to adjust playing for someone new at the
helm. Athlete Kyle Troutman is back and will need to perform even better
on both sides of the ball. Tipton was able to reload last year and make the postseason. The only
problem was that they did this at the Class 1A level. The Tigers return an
outstanding player in Matt O'Donnell but will have to adjust quickly to 2A.
Also keep an eye on quarterback Nick Grimoskas. He needs to reduce his
interceptions but he put up solid numbers last fall behind center. They have been up and down over the past few years but one squad that has a
solid football tradition going is Maquoketa Valley. For the second
straight season, there are a lot of holes that need to be filled but don't be
shocked to see them beat some top tier teams. Quarterback Donny Nordmann
did a lot for this team and his play on offense and defense will be missed.
Brian Jacobsmeyer will likely take over the running back but who else will be
around him? North Cedar finished their
1A schedule at 5-4 but will have to really step up their game in this district.
Consistency will be a key for them. Camanche and Cascade must prove this
year that they can finish games if they want to improve on their 1-13 combined
district record.

Preseason District MVP: August Hadenfeldt

Hadenfeldt will have to become unblockable if the Spartans want to win yet
another district title.

Sleeper Team: Everyone but Solon

This district has so many question marks outside of Solon that the second
playoff spot really is up for grabs. I would not be shocked to see an
upstart team make a run.

Sleeper Player: Matt O'Donnell

His play on both sides of the ball could help Tipton make a run at the
postseason.

District Champion: Solon

The tradition and talent that Solon continues to produce is tough to match.

Wilton

Lost to Mid-Prairie in the first round (28-13)

Thoughts on District 6 for 2006:

287748.jpg
Outside of Wilton, this district really is up for grabs. The biggest
thing that the Beavers return is head coach Lance Pedersen. He has helped
turn the program around and led the team to an undefeated regular season and
district title last fall. Now that team was senior dominated but don't be
surprised to see Wilton fighting for another district title. They were
able to finish the regular season undefeated before falling in the first round
of the playoffs. Durant has had a recent surge in the last couple of years
with classes full of athletes. Jake Soy is back and will see a bigger
role, especially on the offensive side of the ball. But will that be
enough for the Wildcats to improve on their five wins from last year? West
Burlington finished last fall with a 4-3 district record in what was considered
a poor district. But it is important to remember that some of those games
were taken away after using an illegal player. Outside of the eventual
champions from Sigourney-Keota, many questioned the competition they played.
The Falcons could use this year to prove their worth. They return a number
of players back from last year and could have what it takes to improve on that
record. Quarterback Ron Cook and wide receiver Spencer Hill made a nice
combination last season and should improve on that this time around.
Mediapolis and New London finished with identical 5-4 overall records and both
have a chance to break through this year. And that will likely come down
to which team proves that their inexperienced players can step up and perform.
Central Lee, Columbus Junction, and Louisa-Muscatine all will want to turn
things around. And in a district with so many question marks, this may be
the year to do so.

Preseason District MVP: Ron Cook

Although he is undersized, Cook makes a talented quarterback at the high school
level.

Sleeper Team: Every team

I will tell you right now I am not going to be surprised if any random team has
a hot streak and takes home the district title.

Sleeper Player: Jake Soy

Don't be shocked to see Durant turn things around and a lot of that will have to
do with Soy.

District Champion: West Burlington

Now that they don't have to face off against Sigourney-Keota, the Falcons
may have a nice road to the playoffs.

Thoughts on District 7 for 2006:

374785.jpg
When you look at what these teams did last year, this is by far the toughest
district in Class 2A. You have four playoff teams as well as the eventual
champions. That alone will make this very tough each and every Friday
night. The champions from Sigourney-Keota were the definition of a senior
led team. The majority of their starters will be graduated by the fall so
there are some lineup spots up for grabs. Their tradition is second to
none but there will be a lot of inexperience on this team. Don't be
surprised to see the team competing for another district title because of the
tradition but this team may have to shock people even more if they make a
postseason run. PCM-Monroe had an outstanding run to the semifinals
but will have to say goodbye to one of the most underrated athletes in Iowa,
Grant Burns. This outstanding senior made so many plays on the football
field that it was tough to defend. These Mustangs will be young but they
could surprise some people. Leading rusher Zach McCalester made an impact
on the ground and averaged over seven yards per carry. Expect him get more
carries and see more of a role in the offense. Leading receiver and
talented athlete Bradley Norwood totaled over 500 receiving yards last fall as a
junior and also spent time on the defensive side of the ball. If he stays
healthy, Norwood has a chance to fight for All State honors. Mid-Prairie is is another school that consistently produces athletes and has
made the postseason each of the past two years. This last fall, the Golden
Hawks won the first playoff game in school history. They must replace Josh
Berry, who did a little bit of everything for the team. But junior Darian
Patterson will be back and have to step up his game. Patterson played a
number of varsity sports for the Golden Hawks as a sophomore and will see his
role really increase on the football field. Albia may have
made the postseason by default in their district. However, they still did
have a solid year but couldn't do much against Sigourney-Keota. But
neither could a lot of teams. This would be the year to surprise some
people but do they have enough talent on the roster? Eddyville-Blakesburg
had an influx of players a few years back and had some down years. Will
they be back to the playoffs? The Rockets won four games last season but
could not put any type of streak together. Their longest win streak was
one and their longest losing streak was two. C-M-B only won three games
last year but that was with a freshman quarterback behind center. And now
that he is experienced, don't be surprised to see him increase on his solid
numbers from a year ago. Colfax-Mingo finished 0-9 in Class 1A and will be
moving up. That is not a good combination. Bondurant-Farrar has
really became a basketball school over the last few years. And it shows
with their 0-7 district record.

Preseason District MVP: Zach McCalester

Although Sigourney-Keota is my predicted champion, McCalester accomplished a lot
last year as a junior.

Sleeper Team: C-M-B

They may have had a bad record last year but there is a lot of talent coming
back.

Sleeper Player: Dan Samson

This sophomore quarterback was the starter for C-M-B last fall.

District Champion: Sigourney-Keota

They did lose twenty one of twenty two starts but S-K always has talent
waiting in the wings.

How
did District 8 do in the playoffs?

Kuemper Catholic

Lost to Clarinda in the first round (17-16)

Thoughts on District 8 for 2006:

384520.gif
With only two teams finishing 2005 over .500 in their district, it appears
that there are a lot of teams with a chance to improve. The only returning
playoff team was Kuemper Catholic. The Knights overcame an 0-2 start to
finish 7-0 in district play and win the title outright. Although they will
have some spots to fill, this team returns a good nucleus of players that will
have them fighting for another district title. One player to keep an eye
on this year is athlete Mike Romey. Red Oak nearly made the
playoffs last year but just couldn't knock off the two teams above them.
They will greatly miss the likes of two time All Stater Andy Jennings as well as
others but they have a strong group of All District selections back in the fold.
Keep an eye on quarterback Nolan Lamb as well as three other All District
performers back for another year. Lamb's main target this season will
likely be junior Andy Leinen. Maple
Valley-Anthon-Oto brings back a lot of younger athletes who got their feet
wet at the varsity level. Athlete Robbie
Gustin was a first team All District selection last fall and the team also
brings back a lot of their skill players. Also remember the name Derek
Dougherty. This junior started last year and ended up with All District
honors. Missouri Valley is another team
to keep an eye on. They only were able to muster two wins overall but have
a talented quarterback in Cody Myler returning.
He will need to lead the team if they want to make any run towards the
postseason. Myler must reduce the fourteen interceptions that he threw
last season to a much more manageable number. Myler's leading receiver,
Chris Holcombe, is back for the fall and pulled in a number of impressive
catches.
Shenandoah has a very solid lineman back in
Mike Olson but the Mustangs must first replace a
lot of graduated starters. That will determine how well the team can do
this season. Tri-Center won three games in Class 1A but could have
a difficult adjustment period while moving up a class. Quarterback Kurt
Spomer is an overall fantastic athlete and threw for over 1,400 yards last year
as a sophomore. Jefferson-Scranton finished their district 0-7 but they
are getting a chance to play different competition against 2A schools. We
will see how much that helps this fall. West Central Valley struggled to
an 0-10 overall.

Quotes:

"Red Oak and Kuemper will be (the toughest). I watched a little tape but those
are the two toughest that I have heard."

-Kurt Spomer, Tri-Center athlete, on their toughest district games this fall.

Preseason District MVP: Nolan Lamb

Talented quarterback who help his team to a solid year last fall.

Sleeper Team: Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto

There is a nice core of players coming back for this team.

Sleeper Player: Chris Holcombe

This senior was a first team All District selection who made some tough catches.

District Champion: Red Oak

Is this finally the year for Red Oak to break through? That is still a
question mark but talent is there.

Preseason All State Offense

As we
continue our count-down to the start of the 2006 football season, IowaPreps.com
continues breaking down every angle of the upcoming season. After
previewing every district in Class 2A as well as coming out with our pre-pre-season
rankings, it is now time to bring premium users our preseason Class 2A All State
Offense.

QB

Ron Cook

West Burlington

Although he is young, Cook will be looked as
one of the leaders of the West Burling offensive attack this fall.

QB

Kirby Hovden

North Fayette

Hovden has made a name for himself as one of
the top quarterbacks in the entire State after the numbers he put up last
fall as a junior.

RB

Drew Ball

Monticello

Ball shined in pass-first offense but that
didn't stop him from putting up some solid numbers last year.

RB

Jacob Crowl

Sheldon

Crowl was one of the top rushers for Sheldon,
which ended the season as the second best team in Class 2A.

RB

Tanner Haskin

Eldora-New Providence

Although Haskin and his teammates are making
the move up to Class 2A, look for this standout to have a great year.

RB

Zach McCalester

PCM-Monroe

PCM-Monroe made it all the way to the Dome
last fall and couldn't have done it without McCalester's production all year
long.

RB

Mike Moser

North Fayette

Moser and North Fayette will start the year #1
but will this finally be the year for them to break through?

WR

Tony Brugman

Emmetsburg

This All State athlete made an outstanding
year last fall. Now that Brugman is a senior, he will want nothing
less than to end the year with the State title.

WR

Christopher Campbell

Cherokee

In the pass-first offense that Cherokee is
accustomed to, Campbell put up some rock solid numbers through the air.

WR

Reid Geerdes

Central Lyon, Rock Rapids/GLR

Geerdes had an outstanding year of sports as
was named All District on the football field and then he played a vital role
in a State basketball title.

WR

Mike Romey

Kuemper Catholic

Romey is an underrated athlete but does a
number of things to help his Kuemper team better overall.

OL

Canden Johnson

Red Oak

Red Oak just missed out on the postseason but
with Johnson and some important teammates back, look for another run at the
playoffs.

OL

Mike Olson

Shenandoah

Although Olson doesn't have the size that
major colleges are looking for, he does have a great motor and never quits.

OL

Josh Fog

Emmetsburg

Fog will be one of the leaders for an E-Hawks
team that will want nothing but a State title this time around.

K

Elliot Rausa

Waterloo Columbus

Rausa showed off his outstanding leg many
times during last fall and will get a chance to do it again this year.

Preseason All State Defense

As we
continue our count-down to the start of the 2006 football season, IowaPreps.com
continues breaking down every angle of the upcoming season. After
previewing every district in Class 2A as well as coming out with our pre-pre-season
rankings, it is now time to bring premium users our preseason Class 2A All State
Defense.

DL
August Hadenfeldt
Solon

Hadenfeldt is a force along the line on both sides of the ball. With
another year of experience under his belt, he should be even better.

DL

Brian Rodas

MFL-Mar/Mac

Many question how good MFL-Mar/Mac will be as
a team this fall but no one underestimates how good All Stater Brian Rodas
is.

LB
Matt O'Donnell
Tipton

Tipton will be trying to adjust to Class 2A but look for this All State
linebacker to make the transition easier.

LB
Kyle Malm

Emmetsburg

Malm is flat out a great high school football player and has done a number
of things to put Emmetsburg in a position to fight for another State title.

LB
Eric Van
Ginkel

Rock
Valley/Boyden-Hull

Van Ginkel may not be the fastest linebacker in the state but that hasn't
stopped him from making some great plays as a junior.

LB
Vincent Wagner
Osage

Osage saw an outstanding senior class graduate but with Wagner back, the
defense will be tough to score on.

LB
Ben
Durbin

Gilbert

Durbin will play a huge role on both sides of the ball for Gilbert and his
production will be essential for how the team ends up doing.

DB
Eric Hammes
Sigourney-Keota

Hammes will become a three-year starter this fall and he learned a lot while
helping the team to the State title.

DB
Kurt
Spomer

Tri-Center

Spomer is one of the best athletes in the state and he was on full display
last fall as he was named All District.

DB
Kyle
Troutman

Dyersville-Beckman

Troutman is another standout athlete and despite having a new coach, he will
be trying to get the Trailblazers into the playoffs.

DB

Nolan Lamb

Red Oak

Lamb could have made this list at quarterback
or defensive back but it is obvious he is a very important player for his
team.

DB
Darian
Patterson

Mid-Prairie

Patterson is only a junior but made an impact at the varsity level in a
number of sports last fall.
