Q&A with West Lyon linebacker Jaxan Huyser
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season was great, we beat people’s expectations being such a young talented team. People around the area thought this would’ve been a rougher year since we graduated 3/4 of the starters last year so I thought we did awesome.”
What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Now with the offseason I’ve been working out 4 times a week including speed workouts twice a week and some extra running on the weekends.”
How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Next year could be one for the books, I think we are a talented team in many ways where others are not. I believe this team is much more than a 3rd round exit team just like we have in past years. I believe this is the year to do it with a good amount of experience from players and coaches.”
What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I believe Western will be our best game in the regular season.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Kaden Van Regenmorter, the dude is a very talented athlete and he is a very good player.”

Q&A with Ballard outside linebacker Jackson Wacha
How did the high school football season go overall?
“Our high school football season went really well overall. We had some tough games, but we pulled together as a team and showed great determination and skill. We had some big wins and made it to the playoffs, which was a huge accomplishment for us. Overall, it was a successful and memorable season.”
What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans now involve staying active and continuing to train. I'm looking to maintain my fitness level by incorporating a mix of sports and workouts into my routine. I believe that lifting weights will help me build strength, improve my athletic performance, and enhance my overall fitness level.”
How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I'm optimistic about our team's prospects for next football season. We've got a solid core of returning players, and with some hard work and dedication, I believe we have the potential to have a strong season. Our coaches are dedicated to helping us improve, and I'm confident that with their guidance and our collective effort, we can achieve success on the field. We'll be aiming high and striving to make next season even better than the last.”
What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think North Polk is going to be our toughest competitor this coming season. We went 1-1 against each other last season and we ended with the short end of the stick. Our team will be seeking vengeance this year against our rivals North Polk.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I don’t know anyone that will cause us trouble.”

Q&A with Ankeny Centennial running back Braeden Jackson
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went great but next year will be even better.”
What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Lifting 6 times a week, 3 with the team and 3 individually and then track starting up with workouts and meets.”
How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We feel like we will win it all next year, we are extremely confident in each other and trust each other a lot.”
What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Dowling is always a very good team, they have a great program and they have a lot of guys returning so I think that will be a tough opponent. Ankeny is also always a close game and they have some great players too. I’m really excited for those two games.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Being completely honest I’m not sure who it will be yet. We will have to see how the summer and season goes.”

Q&A with Dowling Catholic edge Isaac Beaver
How did the high school football season go overall?
“Not great. Anything but a state title felt like a huge failure. Being intrinsically motivated it’s not like I’m hungrier than I would be if we won state a year ago. If there’s any upside we were able to start training sooner for the 2024 season.”
What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I’m trying to get as flexible as I possibly can while maximizing speed and strength. I lift 4 days a week and spend 4-5 hrs a week getting out of my stance working on my reads and train speed and agility two times per week. I plan on running track to maximize my speed. I’ve been heavily focused on having the fastest 10Y possible.”
How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We have a chance to do great things. For me it’s nonlinear. I can control my diet, effort, and my discipline to hydration strength, speed, acceleration, faith and work ethic etc to maximize my genetics. I can control not making any mental mistakes and being the best version of myself. How many wins we will have isn’t a thought other than I am terrified of not living up to my max potential.”
What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Valley and Centennial are the two teams who are loaded. SE Polk and Ankeny are always tough. The big guy over at Kennedy is a force and their O-line is probably the deepest in Iowa outside maybe Cedar Falls.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Zay is probably the best athlete in Iowa.”

Q&A with MOC-Floyd Valley wide receiver Ahman Langton
How did the high school football season go overall?
“We finished 5-4 in a tough district that included Central Lyon (who were runner-up in 2A) and Bishop Heelan (who were runner-up in 3A). We were a young team, returning only 5 seniors, but had some great wins against tough opponents while learning a lot from our losses.”
What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“We are at the start of basketball playoffs and are currently ranked #7 in Class 3A so most weeks include two basketball games. In addition, I have been doing off-season workout training with Bauer’s Elite in Sioux Falls, and will be doing 7v7 with the Sioux Falls Sharks this spring. Following that I will be doing additional offseason training to prepare me both for summer camps and fall practice.”
How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We are positioned well, returning many of our offensive and defensive starters. We also have some good depth that will transition from JV to Varsity. Some of our underclassmen will have some big shoes to fill; however, the upperclassmen have strong leadership and camaraderie that unifies the team.”
What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“In northwest Iowa it is hard to pick just one. Central Lyon is a perennial favorite. Unity Christian is tough and young.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Zayvion Ellington from Sergeant Bluff-Luton is a great running back.”
