Who got the worst first round draw?

Unfortunately, some #2 seed had to play #3 seeded Johnston. But, by avoiding rematches, the Ames vs Centennial and Johnston vs Urbandale match-ups were eliminated as were the Lincoln vs Centennial and Lewis Central vs Johnston matchups. The only other non-rematch option would have been Ft Dodge vs Centennial and Johnston vs Southeast Polk.

In fact, Fort Dodge at Ankeny is a shorter drive, but a decent amount and Johnston to SEP is roughly a push compared to going to Ankeny. On the mileage side of the equation, the state got it wrong. But, they got it right when looking at arrival time back home for Fort Dodge. This is because of the Ankeny double-header. The game start time would have made for a very late night for Fort Dodge. Flipping Centennial to front end of the double-header would have worked, but then how much school would Fort Dodge have to miss and how many fans would follow the team?

In this case, the single stadium decision has a very strong potential to hurt Ankeny (centennial)
