331 schools are playing football for the 2018 and 2019 season, including 65 8 player schools which had their entire 9 game schedule provided for them.

266 11 player schools listed teams on their non-district priority list, showing their interest in wanting to play one of those schools during weeks 1 through 4 of the season. Two districts in Class A only have weeks 1 and 2 for non-district games along with a "cross over contest" assigned by the IHSAA during weeks 3 through 9.

68.7% of all schools (183, 11 player schools) received all 4 schools on their non-district priority list
93.7% of all schools (249, 11 player schools) received 3 or more schools on their non-district priority list.
6.7% of all schools (17, 11 player schools) only received 2 or few schools on their non-district priority list, with 15 receiving 2 schools on their non-district priority list and only 2 schools receiving 1 school on their non-district priority list.

Class 4A (42 teams)
28 teams received all four teams on their non-district priority list
12 teams received three teams on their non-district priority list
2 teams received two or less teams on their non-district priority list

Class 3A (54 teams)
37 teams received all four teams on their non-district priority list
11 teams received three teams on their non-district priority list
5 teams received two teams on their non-district priority list
1 team received one team on their non-district priority list

Class 2A (54 teams)
33 teams received all four teams on their non-district priority list
16 teams received three teams on their non-district priority list
5 teams received two teams on their non-district priority list
0 teams received one team on their non-district priority list

Class 1A (54 teams)
35 teams received all four teams on their non-district priority list
15 teams received three teams on their non-district priority list
3 teams received two teams on their non-district priority list
1 team received one team on their non-district priority list

Class A (62 teams)
50 teams received all four teams on their non-district priority list *
12 teams received three teams on their non-district priority list
0 teams received two teams on their non-district priority list
0 teams received one team on their non-district priority list
*14 teams had only two options for non-district contests due to being in a 7-team district

5. No team has 3 home or away games in a row unless requested in writing to our office due to maintenance issues.
6. Due to facility issues and sharing of facilities, it becomes increasingly difficult to create some schedules in which during the first two weeks of the season, teams had one home game and one away game. Several schools will start off the season with either home games weeks 1 and 2, or away games weeks 1 and 2. If you are home weeks 1 and 2, week 3 will be on the road, if are away weeks 1 and 2, you will be at home week 3. In addition, several schools will have road games weeks 8 and 9 for one year and home games weeks 8 and 9 the next.

7. Provide some type of highlight(s) regarding this upcoming football season for your school:

1. Certain milestone year of playing (75 year of football played at XXX High School)
2. Certain milestone year of state championship (30 anniversary of the 1989 championship team)
3. Coaching milestone victory (Head coaches 100, 150, 200, etc., could happen)
4. First game on a new field or stadium
5. Renaming of a field or stadium
6. Special Event planned (Recognition night, awareness night)
7. Alumni or current player(s) receiving special recognition or accolades

How to find your schedules:
1. Go to the home page on our website: www.iahsaa.org
2. Click on the "Sports" tab on the top of the page.
3. Using the drop-down box, find "Football"
4. Click on "2018 & 2019 Football Schedules".
5. There will be 6 links, one for each classification. The schedules are in alphabetical order, so please provide an opportunity for the entire PDF to download before trying to find your schedule. Both your 2018 and 2019 schedules are available. The schedules should be mirror opposites.

6. Please note that a few Class 3A schools will required to play Thursday night contests if you have Assumption, Davenport on your schedule. The same may be true for any school playing a Davenport school, Cedar Rapids school or a Sioux City school due to the sharing of facilities.

This completes the IHSAA's responsibilities regarding the scheduling of your football contests for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. All schools have 9 home games over the two-year redistricting cycle, with either 5 or 4 homes games each year. We are not vain enough to say that these scheduled are 100% etched in stone and cannot be changed regarding any home or away contests or dates. If you and one of your opponents agree to change a site or date, we have no issue with that, please contact us as soon as possible with that change. We have attempted to make sure that all schools sharing facilities have opposite schedules so as not to have Thursday or Saturday games and those with 3 schools sharing a facility have been accommodated to try to balance the number of Thursday night contests.

Good luck Wednesday morning as schedules are released. This is a very exciting time for schools and officials.

Reactions: Mr Deeds
Everybody is trying to access them at the same time and the site has slowed way down.

Can't speak for the other classes, at least in 4A, all the big boys are playing big boy schedules!

Is anyone actually playing out-of-state opponents? I haven't checked every schedule, but I haven't found any games yet

It took them this long to release the schedules at least they could do is put more than one schedule on each page.

For what it's worth, it only looks like that from your phone. It's formatted correctly from a laptop/desktop computer.

Some 8-man teams only have 8 games.

Iowa Valley, Lone Tree, Montezuma & Tri-County. All from D4, the nine team district. All have Week 0 open, so let's hope something can be worked out with some of the other 50 odd 8-man teams who also have that week open.

I think it is ridiculous the state promised in their email that every team had 9 games, then left these four teams with only 8 and basically said you find your ninth game.

Thanks for the responses on the out-of-state games. I know Keokuk is interested in a Missouri team and an Illinois team but couldn't get anything put together for this cycle. Hopefully, the state continues to allow this.

I think you will see many more in the next cycle as it would be difficult for out of state schools to just add an Iowa school on short notice.

Err..., except for 4 teams in District 4. They're on their own for finding a 9th game.
