That time of year again. The annual NCC conference meet will take place at the new Webster City gym today. Should be some good matchups throughout the tourney, particularly at 160 and 170.

Webster City is the early favorite though Humboldt and Clarion-Goldfield should provide a challenge to knocking the Lynx off their throne. Algona, Clear Lake and St. Edmond could also make some noise in the tourney.

Three teams, that I could find, are in the rankings depending on the source. Humboldt is 5th in 2A and C-G is 8th in 1A according to the IWCOA. Predicament has St. Edmond at 8th, the only NCC team they ranked in the top 10.

SE is still the only conference school, that wrestles, in search of their first NCC dual meet title.

Anyone know if online updates are gonna be provided again this year?

Re: NCC Meet

Standings with just a few weights to go:

1. Humboldt 182.0
2. Webster City 163.5
3. Clear Lake 154.0
4. Algona 153.0
5. Clarion-Goldfield 149.0
6. St. Edmond 146.0
7. Hampton-Dumont 105.5
8. Iowa Falls-Alden 71.0
9. Eagle Grove 18.0

Re: NCC Meet

Nice had a hunch that Humboldt would pull it off, not sure why I kept seeing in newspapers that WC was the favorite when Humboldt seemed to be really picking up steam of late. When is the last time they won conference? Yikes on the EG side of things.

Re: NCC Meet

Humboldt had some tough teams from 1999-2004ish...I know they won conference in there a couple times. They may have won it since then, but I don't remember.

Really disappointing about the situation with Eagle Grove, they have so much tradition there that it's unfortunate that they can't field a full team. I have to imagine this is probably their worst performance in the NCC.

Re: NCC Meet

i posted a month ago about this sleeper team... look out fans they are good

Re: NCC Meet

Humboldt NCC Tournament Championships

2013 @ Webster City
2002 @ Webster City
1995 @ Hampton
1993 @ Webster Cty
1981 @ Algona
1972 @ Iowa Falls
1969 @ Webster City

Looks like Humboldt would like the tournament in Webster City every year. 4 of their 7 have been on the Lynx mats.

Re: NCC Meet

Thanks, did you find that from a wrestling program? Or is there a website around that has some history on it?

Re: NCC Meet

yeah i would say EG has fallen hard to be honest though its been well over a decade since theyve had a solid team so it isnt a recent thing. They did have a couple great individuals in the last decade but thats about it. Its pretty noticeable when schools have great lower levels of wrestling and when they dont, I would imagine Humboldt did something right in the last couple years.

Re: NCC Meet

I think the NCC as a whole was pretty stout from 1999-2004ish. I remember that time well, and the conference produced MANY state placewinners and champions. It seems like not to long after that, it dropped off a little bit. But, back then you could have state finalists/placewinners that didn't even win a conference title!

Re: NCC Meet

Your not kidding I think that was true for every single sport for the conference, wow was that amazing Id love to hear the amount of Division 1 athletes that came through the schools in the conference, but I suppose it comes and goes but it certainly made all of the sporting events extremely exciting.

Re: NCC Meet

in the early 80,s the NCC had a butt load champs every year! It was crazy tough back then!!! state placers at every weight! it was the toughest conference in class 2a back then.....

Re: NCC Meet

The updated rankings from thepredicament.com came out yesterday.

St. Eds is the only NCC team ranked, at 8th in 1A.

Humboldt and C-G are certainly deserving of a ranking but I guess the way that site does their rankings is a bit different.

However here's the breakdown of ranked wrestlers from each school-

Clarion-Goldfield: 4

Clear Lake: 3

Humboldt: 2

St. Edmond: 4

Re: NCC Meet

Speaking of Clear Lake... has anyone heard if there have been any suspensions of any member of the CL coaching staff as a result of the latest tirade which came at the sectionals last Saturday?

Re: NCC Meet

According to IHSAA rules a player/coach who is ejected from a contest will also not be able to coach/participate in the next immediate contest. The official who ejected the coach/player has to file a report with the IHSAA so I would hope Clear Lake follows the rules and the assistant coach in question will not be in attendance at tonight's regional dual meet.

I'm kinda tired of Clear Lake always being at the center of controversy.

Re: NCC Meet

I thought that was the likely result, but had not seen any statement confirming it. And I do agree... CL always seems to be in the news for all the WRONG reasons. The football coach was another big black mark last year.

To me, this stems from an administrative lack of control. Whether there are "behind the scenes" consequences or not, this stuff is happening way too often.

Re: NCC Meet

Results from tonight's regional duals.

Aplington-Parkersburg 41, St. Edmond 31
Clarion-Goldfield 50, Britt, West Hancock 27

Clarion-Goldfield 47, Aplington-Parkersburg 20

-5th seed CG will face 4th seed Sumner-Fredericksburg at the Class 1A State Duals

Osage 40, Clear Lake 26

Humboldt 57, Woodward-Granger 21
Ballard 33, Humboldt 28

Re: NCC Meet

Congrats to Clarion-Goldfield for winning their regional and representing the NCC at State Duals. Humboldt was so close to making it as well. Great dual season Wildcats.

MitchL...No behind the scenes consequences that I have ever heard of. Clear Lake just seems to be a magnet for trouble and controversy.

Re: NCC Meet

SE was, unfortunately, without Kaden McClintock, their undefeated wrestler at 113 for their dual with AP. That was 6 free points which certainly could've gone the other way had he been there.

Neat story though, all three Harvey brothers won by pin in their final dual together, including Eddie who won by pin in the final match of the dual.

What are Clarion's chances down at the state duals? They'd face #1 Alburnett if they can get past Sumner-Fredericksburg, but C-G did defeat them last year down at the state duals en route to a 6th place finish.

Re: NCC Meet

The only team to beat Alburnett this year was #1 class 2a WestDelaware and that meet was fairly close! that being said Clarions chances vs Alburnett are very slim! BUT if Clarion wrestles there absolute best i think they may have a chance to place 3rd...

Re: NCC Meet

Assuming both Clarion and Alburnett make it to the semi's will either or both wrestle their best line-up? Will any coach use the philosophy of wrestling their best squad in the first dual to give their kids a "warm-up" match, then rest them for Thur-Sat? Good luck to C-G!!!

Re: NCC Meet

i hear ya sexy-one... Coaches are gona do what they think is best! BUT i,m still gona be there wednesday thru saturday enjoying the sport i love!!

285- Mitch Gambrill (Clarion-Goldfield, 22-8) vs Cody VanDee (Iowa Valley, 46-2)

NCC will be represented by 34 wrestlers from the area. Oddly enough, the only weight that won't feature a conference wrestler is at 120. Added- 152 is the only other weight where an NCC dual meet champ did not qualify for state. Teddie Harvey probably could've qualified had he wrestled at 152 as well, and would've been a favorite to win an NCC title at 152, but chose to go back to the weight he made state in last year.

By team-
Algona: 7
Clarion-Goldfield: 4
Clear Lake: 4
Hampton-Dumont: 4
Humboldt: 5
St. Edmond: 5
Webster City: 5
