I drove by there when I was home for Christmas, and did I see that they took the trees down? For those of you who don't know what this means, West Hancock had the neatest trees surrounding the West side of the field. Just wondering. Doc can probably answer this.

They took down the wind break? That's weird, considering the field sits on the West edge of town. This made me think back to the 1990s and two of the coldest playoff games I attended, both at Britt. The first was the 1993 semifinal against Northwest, Laurens when I used my press pass to get into the press box to keep warm. The second was, I believe the 1995 first round game against Iowa Falls, where I had to brave the elements on the fence. Can't imagine how much colder it would have felt without those trees.

The trees that were there are Austrees. They are a fast growing tree but also have a short lifespan and are very messy. They were a nice windbreak and yes but for all the maintenance that was required and the hazards of falling branches, it was time to take them down. I think the school is working with a company to figure out what to plant in their place.
