I'd put Regina in 2nd or 3rd I feel West Lyon deserves that #1 spot, and it's close between Regina and Van Meter

Regina has never been ranked this low before. Most likely, they are not too worried about it. In previous years, Regina was #1 and many teams "thought" they could beat Regina. Until last year, it never happened. Regina is going to keep on winning the next few games against some sub-par teams. In the end, they will be in the mix for the title. There may be a team or two good enough to beat them. However, I seriously doubt that there are six of them.

Believe it or not we actually AGREE on this. Wilton is not a top 5 team, and Regina is a top 3 team. Proven by the scoreboard. I called out Luke last week on this comedy of errors.

10 - West Branch (2-starter injuries are piling up. 4 players out now for at least the remainder of the regular season, 3 of them for the year. Including RB/LB, LG/DT, WR/FS, and TE/DE)

The bottom line is that Regina’s two losses were to Luke’s #1 and #2 ranked teams in 3A. I understand giving respect to the unbeaten teams, so if that’s Luke’s reasoning then I have no issue with that. Seems like that is the only explanation.

If you want to rank the 1A teams with all things considered, and no bias, then I would put Regina in one of the top two spots. I tend to favor giving respect to a 1A team that schedules two 3A powers more than I favor respecting undefeated records (regardless of the score). Xavier and Solon are very good teams. Solon probably has the best defense I’ve ever seen in 3A football.

I hate to throw out superlatives, but after seeing them twice and looking at the numbers it’s hard for me not to. If it isn’t the best then they’re up there near the top.

He did say 'powers' And yes I like the scheduling up approach by WB, it pays dividends going forward.

Actually after the first state championship in this run they were unranked in some polls heading into the 2011 season.

As far as the Solon defense goes a long time coach told me they have the best DL he has ever seen. Their numbers are showing it.

Are you asking if I respect that? Sure, I do. I wasn’t implying that I don’t respect teams that only schedule other 1A competition in non-district.

Also, I did say “powers”. West Liberty and West Burlington are very very far from Xavier and Solon

West Liberty has underperformed and WBND is just not good.

Liberty has all kinds of talent. Their coaches haven't evolved enough to get the to the next level.

Skill players: loaded with speed and power.
Line: a couple of headtoppers, but very serviceable on the whole.

They should have been a top 10 team all year.

Iske is the fastest HS kid in Iowa, so I'm told. The Kelly kid at RB is the best the Bears have faced all year. Feldman is a tough cookie at QB.

Two teams that I have had trouble believing the pre-season hype is West Liberty and Wilton. I believe SK may upset Wilton.in week 9 and claim the 2nd playoff spot.
