I would think so too. I'm not sure there is a more talented team than LC. What does Cedar Rapids Xavier have that makes them special compared to last year's team?

CBLC has essentially a college level DL (3 guys that go from 6'4 260 - 6'6 320) an OL to match and a QB that is sharp. Barring injury, it should be CBLC vs CRX or North Scott in the championship. Funny how 2 of the larger 4A teams from last year that dropped down are the ones favored to win it all.. boys in Boone screwed the pooch on making it "more competitive".

Need a 5A class, girls sports did it right.

That's an impressive lineup. I've been hearing others say LC is arguably the best 3a team. Talk is cheap though, as the season plays out, we will see what these top teams are made of.

Totally agree, girls did it right with 5 classes. It should have happened a long time ago. Any schools that have moved classes recently, it's to no fault of their own. They should have have been in the appropriate classes all along. Many schools have been penalized for being the smallest in their class for years and inappropriately classified comapred to the size of others in their respective class.

Yeah, I think to make it more fair....just create more classes. What is the best amount?

The top 10 schools are much larger than the rest, so separate them.

Make a private school class regardless of size. They cheat by recruiting, so who cares about them? If they cant compete, then recruit harder.

Then tier the rest of the classes every 20 schools based on size. The bottom 50 schools are all pretty small, so no need to tier them out any further.

For those schools that still feel it is unfair, just proactively give them a trophy to make them feel good.

You're correct. I meant 6.

No. They need to combine 3A and 4A to make it more competitive all around. LeMars played at Sioux City (North) last night and that was a very exciting game that came down a LeMars interception in the end zone with 1 minute left. More competitive games like that is what schools like SC North need to be apart of.

The vast majority of private schools do not cheat by "recruiting," no more than public schools in certain areas. Most private schools in football can barely field a team. Forget Xavier and look at some of the other dismal scores..The power teams have decades of tradition, huge rosters and great coaching, just like the power public schools. Assumption got beat 47-7 last night by Solon. Wahlert, 0-3, has lost two of them by the "mercy rule." And so on. No reason to punish them more, just because a couple schools have good programs. And if you don't think that parents and players don't somehow find their way to Bettendorf, Iowa City West, and other power public programs, you have your head in the sand. Unfortunately sometimes, success breeds success and it just keeps going. Everybody, including me, likes to see the small school or the underdog win, but I'm afraid that high school football is becoming, more than ever, the "the Haves" versus "the have nots." Just like war, the biggest army with the toughest general usually wins. Sad to say.
