Here are my week 8 top 10 rankings:

1. Dike-New Hartford
2. Van Meter
3. Bellevue
4. West Sioux
5. South Central Calhoun
6. West Branch
7. Pella Christian
8. I-35, Truro
9. Wilton
10. Mediapolis

Others receiving votes: West Lyon, Regina Iowa City, Treynor, Osage, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Cascade, Mount Ayr, South Hamilton

We had some district titles settled last night with West Sioux, Treynor, and Wilton all big winners. I will say that West Sioux looked impressive, especially on offense. I really don’t see them getting much of a challenge until the semifinals. Treynor really took it to Missouri Valley to lead their district outright. As predicted before the season, Wilton remains the lone undefeated in their district with a nice defensive performance. Osage still controls their own destiny in district 3, and looks like they shouldn’t have much problems the last two weeks. Regina looks like they are rounding into form. They are getting great contributions on the ground, and Ashton Cook had a nice game last night. A good running game and solid qb play will make for a great game in week 9 vs DNH.

Looking ahead to week 8 games:

Mount Ayr @ Van Meter
Cascade, Western Dubuque @ West Branch
Sumner-Fredericksburg @ Aplington-Parkersburg

Mount Ayr vs Van Meter will be for the district 8 title. I expect Van Meter to suffocate the Raiders and take control early en route to a dominating win. Mount Ayr will hope to get in based on RPI.

Cascade could play a huge role in a possible three way tie in district 4. Before worrying about Bellevue in week 9, they have to try and take down WB. They have been playing better lately, but competition hasn’t been very strong. Should be a great game at the Little Rose Bowl. I thin WB comes out hot and defends their home field.

SF vs AP is on here based on the fact that SF needs to keep winning to keep their RPI as high as possible. If SF gets by AP, they have North Butler in week 9, which will be an easy win. AP has really mailed it in the last couple weeks, including a 31-14 loss at Lake Mills last night. They have a chance to spoil SF playoff chances and they also host Osage next week.

Interesting district races in these last couple weeks. District 4 will become a bit more clear after this week with Cascade vs WB. District 3 has a top matchup as Osage goes to Lake Mills which Osage should win rather easily as will claim the district title bc of a win over SF a couple weeks ago. District 6 is going to go down to week 9 when DNH travels to Regina. As Regina becomes more healthy, the more dangerous they become. District 7 will also have to wait until week 9 for a champion as I-35 will head to Van Meter. Both have been on a mission this season and will collide with undefeated records.

Even though the season isn’t over, here’s the likely district winners so far:

District 1: West Sioux
District 2: South Central Calhoun
District 5: Wilton
District 9: Treynor

Sorry, but need a small correction here as I-35 and Van Meter are not in the same district. I-35 will most likely play Pella Christian in Week 9 for the championship of District 7. Van Meter hosts Mt Ayr this week in the battle for the District 8 championship.

Otherwise, very good analysis. Fun part of the season.

Yeah my fault. I always get those couple teams mixed around.
