Game of the Week: Glidden Ralston @ Coon Rapids-Bayard
Here is the big one that everyone in District 7 have been waiting for. Winner without a doubt takes a the district title. Coon Rapids is out to gain some respect that they seem to have not been getting in the eyes of many. They are led by Junior running back Zach Evans who has quietly ran for over 1,200 yards thru the first 6 games. Coon looks to power the ball down the field with their running game. Glidden however looks to counter them with a more balanced attach and fundamental football. Coach Lensch always has his boys ready to play no matter who he loses the prior year and this year makes no difference. This game has the makings of being a real dandy. I see this coming down to a second half turnover that leads to a score which will ultimately make the difference. Coon is my pick here.

Upset pick of the week: Northwood-Kensett @ Janesville
The first real test as well for Janesville as a NK comes to town. What once was very high hopes for Northwood Kensett have almost turned to a disappointment after dropping the first two games of their season but have sense realed off 4 straight wins by an average margin of victory of 46+ points. They are seeming to find their stride at the right time and look to give Janesville their first blemish of the season. I feel they have a lot to prove to themselves and this week they take care of business and knock off Janesville on the road.

Game to keep an eye on: Newell-Fonda @ Exira-EHK
After Newell Fonda started the year off 0-3, not many people pegged this game to mean much in District 1. Since those first 3 losses Newell has rattled off 3 straight and looking to make it 4 as they go on the road to face a very good Exira-EHK team that looks to extend their record to 7-0 in a rematch of one of the semi-final games last year. The Mustangs look to try and slow down all everything quarterback Drew Peppers who has been on a tear this year. This game I feel will be a lot closer than what many people expect it to be. Dont be surprised if Newell comes out on top of this one as they are real hungry after getting embarrassed in Cedar Falls last year and look to get revenge. Keep an eye on the score of this one.

Meskwaki has beaten two teams handedly that Tri-County has lost to, 50-8 and 54-6. Therefore I hope it is a mistake that they are in bold rather than Meskwaki. Also would like your opinion as to why you chose that? Thanks for your time.

You are correc that is a mistake BUT I wont change it since I already made the pick. As far as the Laurens and RU game I dont know how anyone can say they have no chance at beating them especially when both teams are 0-6. Thats why they play the game, anything can happen on any given Friday night.

I may be wrong to give them no chance at all but Iv seen both teams play and I believe RU will come out on top by at least 2 scores

Melcher-Dallas over Lamoni at Lamoni. Whats your reasoning here? Lamoni wins this game by 2-3 scores. If it were at Melcher, it might be a closer game. No way Melcher beats Lamoni on the turf at home. high90school, you are having a tough week on the message boards and picking games.

Game of the week: G-R at C-R...this may be one of the best games all year...both teams potentially top 5 teams...will it be low or high scoring game? Terry (A-C) went for a 100+ and Laabs (G-C) went for 150. You know C-R will be running (only 18 passes all year). I think Evans will run for 150+. G-R plays smart ball but Evans is hard to stop even if you know he is coming. Coon by 2 TDs.

You talk like they gained all those yards against the starters. I know for a fact that Terry did not gain much of anything against the GR starters. I've seen this over and over again in Carroll county where Coon is good so now they can beat GR. If they ever actually do, then you know they are for real. Until they do, I have to go with GR by a good margin.

Hawkfan that game was actually a swing game for me. I feel it will be a heck of a lot closer than what you might think. I feel Lamoni might have a better offense but Melcher has the better defense in this one and I always like to follow the adage that defense wins you championships (not saying either team will this year) so I went with the team that I felt had the better D. As far as the Coon Rapids and Glidden game, this will be awfully close. Glidden is Glidden BUT this year I know Coon Rapids has a very talented football team. This game will be smash mouth football and I feel whoever can throw the ball...yes I said throw the ball....when they need to throw it, will win this game. The playaction pass will be huge in this game especially with how much both teams lean on the run.

It's too bad these will not meet late the playoffs instead of being in the same district. It should be a great game. G-R is a sound fundamental team. Will that be enough to slow down Evans? Because Coons all about Evans. We will only know on Friday. It hard to get a good read on either of these teams because there are no great defenses in District 7 outside of maybe these teams.
