Last week gave us a little better picture of who will be in contention for a district title as well as a deep playoff run that could ultimately take them to Cedar Falls. Game of the Week: Glidden Ralston @ Coon Rapids-Bayard
Here is the big one that everyone in District 7 have been waiting for. Winner without a doubt takes a the district title. Coon Rapids is out to gain some respect that they seem to have not been getting in the eyes of many. They are led by Junior running back Zach Evans who has quietly ran for over 1,200 yards thru the first 6 games. Coon looks to power the ball down the field with their running game. Glidden however looks to counter them with a more balanced attach and fundamental football. Coach Lensch always has his boys ready to play no matter who he loses the prior year and this year makes no difference. This game has the makings of being a real dandy. I see this coming down to a second half turnover that leads to a score which will ultimately make the difference. Coon is my pick here.
Upset pick of the week: Northwood-Kensett @ Janesville
The first real test as well for Janesville as a NK comes to town. What once was very high hopes for Northwood Kensett have almost turned to a disappointment after dropping the first two games of their season but have sense realed off 4 straight wins by an average margin of victory of 46+ points. They are seeming to find their stride at the right time and look to give Janesville their first blemish of the season. I feel they have a lot to prove to themselves and this week they take care of business and knock off Janesville on the road.
Game to keep an eye on: Newell-Fonda @ Exira-EHK
After Newell Fonda started the year off 0-3, not many people pegged this game to mean much in District 1. Since those first 3 losses Newell has rattled off 3 straight and looking to make it 4 as they go on the road to face a very good Exira-EHK team that looks to extend their record to 7-0 in a rematch of one of the semi-final games last year. The Mustangs look to try and slow down all everything quarterback Drew Peppers who has been on a tear this year. This game I feel will be a lot closer than what many people expect it to be. Dont be surprised if Newell comes out on top of this one as they are real hungry after getting embarrassed in Cedar Falls last year and look to get revenge. Keep an eye on the score of this one.
