Theres some very interesting games coming up for week 6. I think the ones in district 7 and 9 will decide the champ even though there will be a few weeks left to go. Others could decide at-large bids.

District 1: West Sioux @ Western Christian
*West Sioux will host West Lyon in week 7.

District 7: Pleasantville @ Pella Christian
*This one should decide who wins the district.

District 8: Mount Ayr @ Panorama
*The game is huge as far as keeping their RPI high enough because both teams are behind Van Meter. The winner will most likely qualify as an at-large.

District 9: Underwood @ Treynor
*Underwood has been impressive with its defense. Can they stop Treynors rushing attack? Again, this game decides who wins the district.

It’s also worth noting that the first batch of RPI rankings will come out after week 6. Any other games of interest in week 6? Thoughts?

West Sioux @ Western is by far the top game of the week. Both teams are "Dome" caliber teams. Huge game in the D1 race!

Those three teams in district 1 have been coasting so far but now the real season begins as they start to play each other. I still think it’ll come down to West Sioux and West Lyon for the district title. To me that’s the regular season game of the year in 1A.

Found this post interesting from the Hawkeye Report Off Topic board:

“I was talking to a former Van Meter resident at the Simpson/BV game today. He said that Van Meter has been encouraging open enrollment and kids from the surrounding towns are taking advantage of it. He mentioned Waukee. Boys who would be 2nd/3rd string are transferring to Van Meter and can be great in 1A. But, he did say that VM had to end their open enrollment policy recently. They were getting too close to moving to 2A.”

Interesting. Wealth of talent in that area to draw from.

Wait, a public school encourages open enrollment until they are worried about moving up a class? I thought that was a private school tactic.

West Sioux starts the District 1 gauntlet!

They travel to Western Christian to face a high powered offense and staunch defense in Western. Coach Kooima has them playing at a very high level. The home field advantage will help WC keep it close throughout the first half but CYCLONE Decker and company pull away in the second half to win by 14.

Next week West Sioux hosts West Lyon to battle for the district championship.
